Did a little knife rehab this evening.

I pulled this Mora Companion MG out of my hunting pack a couple weeks ago. I apparently forgot to clean it last season after processing a deer. It was pretty gnarly with deer blood and hair. The problem with that is deer blood is acidic and this is carbon steel. So it was pretty gnarly with rust too.

I cleaned it up with fine sandpaper and oil then gave it a vinegar and salt bath to force a patina and eat the rest of the surface rust away. Left it with a nice light black oxide finish.

Then I went to work with my water stones and a leather strop and polished the edge back out to 8000 grit.

I do believe it is back to useable shape now.

I may have just spent three hours cleaning up a 12 dollar mass produced blade when I have many more high end and custom hand made options. But it's worth it as these Moras are worth way more than their cost in terms of function.

I wish I'd taken a before pic.......IMG_20171211_215022.jpg

Is mora a Swedish word for "tough as hell"?.....I own 4 of these dang knives and still amazed at the quality for a knife that can be bought for under 20.00 bucks.

Everyone should own a half dozen or so.....

I think I have about 8-10 of them now. I kept buying a few here and there as I found them for $10 or less. Really can't beat them... Cheap, sharp, utilitarian, and who cares if you lose it.
I have some nicer knives but usually grab for the Mora first because I have them everywhere. Haha

Mora knives are kinda like the Mongols to a history buff. The “rules” of knives just don’t seem to apply. “You get what you pay for...unless it’s a mora” for example

This Mora Bushcraft wasn't as neglected as the Companion above, but it was in need of a good sharpening and had a bit of surface rust from moisture. It was in a vehicle for a bit.

I started with 600 grit up through 8000 grit water stones and finished with a leather strop. Cleaned up the rust with olive oil and a rag and left it coated with it.

Sheath is my work but it's not new.

Nice sheath on that Mora @rantingredneck ! I might need to get with you, I prefer horizontal carry and the Mora belt clips don't have a hope in hell of sliding over a Fatboy belt lol

You should as it's a great sheath! @rantingredneck made a scout carry for my Mora and it is awesome!

Speaking of Mora deals one model that most people overlook is the 5.8" model

My other favorite is the Kansbal

Not sure I need a Mora that big. Part of the appeal is their compact cutting power.
