So wife went in to have a recall done to replace the battery sensor and so began the intermittent reverse camera. She went today (a week later and with the camera completely out and no reverse lights which makes sesne) and was told it could be bad reverse switch or bad transmission. This is the worst diagnosis I have ever heard and I call BS. Anyways, they want to replace the switch first so the cost with labor is 250. They have to order the switch and I told her to bring it home. Something does not seem right. Looks like our Valentine's Day will be spent in the garage.

I am going to do some research but wanted to see if any of our mechanics have dealt with this before.

it's a two wire plug....unplug it and use a volt/ohm meter to check for continuity between the terminals while both in and out of reverse. if it doesn't screw in chances are it only has one small 10mm bolt holding it in...seriously simple to check and replace.

That is how it is on my CJ, I am trying to find the general location now. Thanks for the info.

Why are they guessing? They need to diagnose the problem, and fix it. Not try something first. If it were me I would try another dealer. For a second opinion. I would seriously doubt it is the transmission.

I agree, and I am not happy how they treated her. This is Hendrick Honda here in Charleston.

Switch is just above the bracket that secures the clucth slave lines

Yellow will be battery voltage. Blk/wht or Green will feed back to the micu. Then power out to the camera and back up lights

My wife just stopped by so I could look at it. Exactly where you said it was. Going to get the switch tomorrow from Hendrick Honda and do it myself.

I used Hendricks for a long time until they got ridiculous on their "fishing" expeditions. Anytime their "A" mechanics are not busy they start fishing for anything to make money and keep them busy.

Now you can tell your wife you are going to buy some gun stuff with all the money you saved fixing the car yourself.

I second this.

" honey...I fixed your car. Freaking dealership wanted $800....I got it done for $400!!" ( As you hide your S&W M&P Shield)......

I mentioned something about saving money and maybe getting a new set of sockets for the garage, she told me I owed her the diagnostic fee because I should have figured it out and how easy it was to fix.

I married a smart one, sometime too smart.

The most awesome detail overlooked in this thread: lowcountry’s wife drives a stick. It seems very few women can drive manuals anymore.

One sunny afternoon a couple of winter's ago as she was driving a 2007 Civic with auto, she said "I just went to look at some cars and see what is out there." She saw an accord with a manual with less than 10k miles, we came home with it the next day. She prefers a manual and we have two manuals and one auto at our house. During negotiations, I told the salesman that "It is a manual, no one wants that and you know it, that is why it has been sitting for a while."
