Getting ready to order 2 Weatherby Vanguard rifles. One in .223 and one in 22-250. Mainly for range target use out to 200 yards or so. Also possibly for Coyotes as I would like to try some Coyote hunting later on. Looking at the Nikon 3-9 X 50 BDC scope to put on both rifles. Not sure about the best rings to buy. Never scoped a rifle other than a 22LR years ago and used cheap glass and rings. I want to do these right. I don't shoot competition or need to put 5 shots in a dime at 200 yards, but I do want decent accuracy.

Over the years I've mounted picatinny rails on all my rifles, including bolt guns. That way I can easily switch or upgrade scopes if I ever need too. I see more and more bolt guns with rails installed straight from the factory. Just another idea and option.

For the money I like Burris tactical rings (they come in aluminum or steel). I've had mixed success with BDC reticles. I was never able to match the ammo with the reticles to my satisfaction. I do know that the folks that use them for hunting around my neck of the woods are the same folks that seem to always be searching for lost game. I would get a simple duplex reticle and sight it in dead on at 200 yards and that should take care of most of your shooting and hunting scenarios and be close to your maximum. Then put up a 8 inch paper plate at 300 yards and see where your group falls. You should be relatively close to the bottom of the plate. If so, that is your effective (maximum) hunting range.

Good luck. Let is know how your rifles shoot. I have a soft spot for Bee's, both Vanguards and Mark V's.

Dumb question here as I haven't mess with it before. Went to Gander earlier this afternoon to look and handle some scopes. Prob buy the online, but like to look first. I also looked at rings and bases. Looks like a lot of the bases are set up for particular rifles. Is this usuually the case? I assumed most bases were designed in a one size fits all type deal. Being mostly an iron sigghts guy, never realized there were so many types of rings and bases.

I like to go to Swfa.com and search by firearm manufacturer. It makes it easy to look at several good options. Leupold, Burris, Warne and several others are all good.

I'm gonna try to save you some $$$ here. Try https://www.opticsplanet.com/

They have had the best deals on scopes and optics generally I have found so far. If someone else here has a better site let's hook this guy up.

Looking at it now. Only a handful of Weatherby rifles listed there for some reason. Any sure fire way to confirm compatibility on a base prior to buying? Looking into suggestions here, but not certain if they might properly fit. I would assume most if not all Weatherby rifles would have the same type of mount. Would this be accurate?

Probably, but I don't have any Weatherby's. I'd just call SWFA tomorrow. When first got into rifles I called them before ordering to make sure I had the right things in my cart, and they verified it and gave me another option. They seem to have a clue. And that is rare so I take advantage of it. You could also check out DNZ. They break it down my rifle manufacturer also and make nice stuff.

I forgot about DNZ. I run them on several of my hunting guns. They are excellent and not that expensive.
