Why do people post things on Craigslist and then get weird when you want to look at the item to purchase it???
Craigslist sucks!

I have sold a lot of stuff on CL. Also gotten rid of stuff quickly in the free stuff section. Had a metal recycler come to take the old chicken wire from my post and rail fence. Then once I removed the fence, a family that had horses came an took away the 20 year old material to build jumps.
I've had people come a haggle. I'm okay with that. But I have also had people do the low ball crap and I just say no.
Every time I list a yard sale or moving sale we get an email from Jacob's House, a more local Good Will without the over paid CEO and executive employees.
Sold some well used but clean furniture as good for a game room. The guy that came to buy it ended up being a colleague at my employer of the time.

I've had good and bad luck with both buying and selling on CL. Recently I was looking for a evaporative air cooler for work, found one a lady had, got in contact and agreed on a meeting time. So I leave work and I'm on the way and I get a text from her that her roommate wants to keep it, and offered her more money for it. Geez, thanks lady for telling me while I'm almost half way to Gastonia, lol. Still looking for one of those dang things.

Welcome to 'Dealing with the Public'.

I did notice that CL now charges a fee to post in certain categories (services and such). It's not the same CL.

Lots of scamming done with photos of the ad instead of typed.

After the 4th person , I had to lock up a BBQ I was giving away one time. Told them the address, but they never showed when they said they would . Gave each one a couple days, then listed it again. Went on for a month.

Just like in every community or group there are bad folks
Ive sold, bought, and traded on CL
From small things up to vehicles
Ive had all positive exchanges
I like CL, dont use it a ton
But still use it a bit
I like it
Yep.
.

Also, I wrote all of that just because I liked how it kept getting shorter and shorter, sorry

I've used craigslist to post in the skilled services section. Got some business, but mostly tire kickers.
I don't post anymore since they began charging $5 per ad.

Exactly why I don't post there now. It was hit/miss before: 'spread 20yds of dirt for $10/hr?', 'fix my boat for $15?', 'are you hiring?'...

I'm not paying $5 for 45 days of that.

I hate it because I always get the random text that says "$30" ... Nothing else. And usually the item is 3x the value of their stupid offer. I don't appreciate people that do not know how to engage in a conversation. When you want to buy something from someone, I don't think throwing a random low ball # out with no introduction or anything is very respectful.

I view CL as dealing with yard sale people, just one at a time.
Most yard sale people are OK.
The ones that aren't Ok are typically so bad that I stay pissed off all day after dealing with them.
Trying to talk me down from something that I was asking $.25 for....

Facebook market people can be just as bad. My wife posted a couch for free. Yep, FREE! All you have to do is come and pick it up. She even posted that the couch was in the Fuquay area. We had people from as far away as Youngsville and Roanoke Rapids inquiring about it and making plans to come and pick it up. Each time, I made sure I was working from home so that they could come and get it. Each time, a last minute call saying "yeah that's too far away". Dadgummit! You knew where it was when you said you'd come get it!

Last week, a soldier living down in Sanford stopped by and took it home He says it's perect.

Yep, I hear ya. Lots of fail through CL. But I've had some luck buying and selling, too.

I see the seller's side (sometimes). I get tired of responses to my sales ads that are likely or clearly scams. I NEVER put my phone # or email address up, and I reply through CL email screen at least once. I don't respond to anyone who asks if my "item" is still available...

I understand if a potential buyer wants to look at something I offer for sale, and I expect an attempt at dickering. But I also read the email inquiries carefully, reply through CL w/o giving my contact info, and post a question back to help me determine if a) it's an actual human, b) they aren't just lookin gfor my # or emil to sell/exploit, and c) they respond in a reasonable tone with a legitimate aim to set up a meet.

If the person asking meets those criteria, then I'll try to set up a meet at a neutral, public place. Loading up my "item" and meeting in a grocery store parking ot is a pain if someone doesn't buy, but worth it to keep my home off their radar.

I recently took 2 phones from my kids for them being morons. Posted their iPhone 8 Pluses for sale on FB, and left out NO details. Carrier, storage, condition, pictures, unlock status, what was included, etc. I also posted a screenshot of what places like Gazelle were offering (which was $475 at the time, which lets them know it's a guaranteed sale at $475) I posted them for $500 and still had people offering me $250, $350, etc. I had someone tell me they could give me $400 cash, and I told them $450 and it's yours, if you meet me in town. They showed up and pull out $400 cash. I got as far as saying "Are you FU-..." and they interrupted to say, "OK OK OK, Four Feeftee, here you go."

Thanks, Juan.

If it's a free item you want gone, put it in the front yard with a sign saying it's $50.
It'll get gone very soon.

I've tried giving away stuff too, and had people ask if I would deliver it! NO! If you want this kegerator, come get it! If you can't afford transportation, should you REALLY be getting a Kegerator?

Well, after a 10 minute phone conversation with the lady, she says she'll text me her address so I can come look at her item for sale. Awhile goes by and nothing. I text her a ' I look forward to meeting you tomorrow' as a friendly reminder in case she got distracted or busy.
More time goes by and nothing. I text her that I haven't received her address text.
More time passes and she texts me asking my address and personal info.

I text back that I do not give my personal info out until we're doing title work. Thinking she's trying to play it safe, I text her that we can meet in a public place before heading to her house. Heck, I told her we could meet at the Sheriff's office or police department..lol.
Awhile later she texts that she couldn't meet today as something has come up. Yeah...I bet.
