Solo: A Star Wars Story

Wish I could get excited about this. I'm sure they will find a way to diminish a beloved character like they have with the latest movies. Hopefully I am wrong!
This is another “a Star Wars story” movie like Rogue One. I thought R1 was a great movie. It had the advantage of being butted up to a classic movie, in the middle of a great story. Solo will have sort of the same credentials. I don’t believe they’ll go making statements with it. They’ve got a bad ass reputation to uphold in the character. Cockiness, flying skills, dodging Imperial check points, smuggling, screwing the Hutts (in a non-slug fetishized manner)...

I think it's going to be awesome. Really looking forward to it. We'll actually be down at Disney when it's released...maybe we'll find some special showing, or characters at the theater?

well he DID shoot first - but they also tried to undo that whole scene - so its anyones guess what they might do with it.

And if Disney wants to keep their $4B investment alive and not pissing off their fan base (or their fan base’s kids), they’ll learn from Georgie’s mistake in that shenanigan.

Nah, they know the fanboys will keep coming no matter what and the new fans just don't know or care. Disney knows they pretty much have this thing on auto pilot and they can do what they want. They will be printing money with this franchise for years to come.

I am interested to see how this one turns out considering Disney canned the original two directors, brought in Ron Howard, and essentially re shot 75% of the film. They just wrapped mid October 2017, thus barely 7 months of post production; which may actually be a good thing!

.....the movie that came out 2-3 years ago was a joke. It was the old movies from 1977-1983 with newer graphics and new names for old characters. There was really nothing to add to the story.

Who cares!

Really? Then why would you even post here? Sheesh.

I am looking forward to it. I liked Rogue 1, and I think the stand-alones are a great concept because you don't have to tell the story while telling a backstory or foretelling the next installment.

I think R1 was one of the best Star Wars movies, much better than those that came out in the 90s.

I hope they do stand-alones for all the major characters, I would really dig an Obi-Wan Kenobi flick.

I’m getting SW fatigue.

If you're really into the nitty-gritty details, this guy's YT channel is pretty impressive. About 10 minutes for the Solo explanation:

I posted this one when TLJ was being discussed, but it's as good of a 26:45 video as I've seen as far as tying everything together. My wife (and son) are the huge SW fans in my house, and she enjoyed picking up a couple bits of info from it.

Less than 12 parsecs...

Anyone notice that the front nose of the Falcon is different? It does not have the 2 point cut out. Chewy is sporting 2 Bandoleers which diverges from the prequels and the Original Trilogy and New Trilogy. All I want to know is where can I get a DL44.

On a side note...the dude they have playing Han, Alden Ehrenreich, was in Hail, Ceasar! One of the more underrated Coen Bros. movies. That role prepared him very well for Han's mirthlessness and ruefulness.

All of that was mentioned in the video I posted. Not real good explanations why, just theories and comments.

I saw a blog post that said it's "cargo" in the nose of the Falcon. As most of us know, the ship is "designed" to do this:

So maybe it's a smuggling hold or something since it's not as big as what's pictured. Maybe a smaller cargo hold made to look like it blends into the ship.

Just finished watching solo, and I admit I went into it wanting to hate it,,
But it was actually good, enjoyed it more than rogue one, its predicted to be the lowest grossing of the new batch of SW, but I think they may be wrong

How far ahead of "A new hope" does it take place? Immediately like rogue one or years that may allow for sequels?

Not sure on the exact time line but it is well before a new hope,it's a young han solo, who looks more like Ray liotta than Harrison ford,. So if the box office is strong enough there's room on the timeline for sequels,. ( Spoiler alert)

the movie ends with han heading for tataouine to meet a big crime boss ( I'm guessing Jabba the hut for a big job)

Im with you S4f, I want to watch this movie, but Han Solo is an icon of my youth. A large part of me is not wanting to like the movie because there is no Han but Harrison Ford as Han. I hope I am wrong.

Same attitude I had about the movie, ,there's enough action in the first 20 minutes of the film that you find yourself hooked, but though in my mind there's only one true Han Solo( Harrison Ford) I was able to put away these preconceived notions and actually enjoy the movie, gave it a 7.5 out of 10. Would have rated it higher but the ending was a little weak and predictable.

We're going Monday morning. Was hoping to catch it opening night at Disney, but by the time I looked for tickets there was nothing but the front row open.

But I did see the storm troopers march in and got my pic taken with Chewie yesterday. :D
