"I represent lawful gun owners. Lawful gun owners don't have to make their own firearms," said Marc Erickson.

He also stated that he believes the law should remain the same and the focus should be on prosecuting violent offenders.

i watched the video - is it possible it was cut short or was taken out of context somehow? (im really trying here)

on the other hand - shows how "expert" antigunners are that she wasnt even aware until the news station told her.

Really.... what a tool.

Piss on them, if that is the crap coming from that group. Not much better than an anti saying what we should and shouldn’t be doing.

I’m a grown ass man and will do what I want and deal if the consequences

I don’t need anyone telling me what I should and shouldn’t do. I like advice obviously you know what I’m talking about.

Eh...I'm not seeing it. The dude said what he said.

Now after the backlash (and there will be backlash), he'll probably come out and state "he was taken out of context". Personally, I believe that to be an overused, BS excuse to try and save face after you've stepped in 'it'.

What he should have said is, "Yeah...gun owners are an ingenious lot and many of them enjoy building their own firearms off of a partially finished receiver. They have the right to do this and it is perfectly legal" instead of feeding into the story and trying to draw a line between "lawful" gun owners who buy complete firearms or "other" gun owners who make their own using 80% lowers.

Some gun rights advocates like the director of Grass Roots North Carolina Marc Erickson stated these weapons do pose some concerns.

"I represent lawful gun owners. Lawful gun owners don't have to make their own firearms," said Marc Erickson.
Seriously? And just what is the point of having guns serialized and registered with the .gov??? As far as I am concerned lawful governments have no need to know what items free citizens own.

to me it did seem to cut off abruptly- i wanna believe he was trying to argue that gun owners dont have to "make" anything to skirt the law or something along those lines (who knows how the full convo went with the reporter)

but i agree - even if that was the case there was a much better way to say it. (youre version woulda worked just fine)

between this and the other thread telling some of the history on here - sounds like its time for grnc to change their leadership or tactics. they dont seem to be winning any fans on here.

GRNC members need to kick him to the curb. Citizens have the right to arm themselves without .gov oversight or approval. Laws are already in place that infringe on "shall not be infringed", in no shape form or fashion do we need more and we should be actively working to repeal the ones already on the books. A champion for 2A rights should never make a statement that leaves the open interpretation of "only non-legal gun owners make their own firearms". You know who owns plenty of untraceable firearms? Pretty much anyone who owns a gun that was made prior to 1968, serial numbers weren't required before then and the few companies using them were only using them to track manufacturing/delivery for warranty purposes.

"is it possible it was cut short or was taken out of context somehow?"

As someone who was once interviewed by the local news media, I can believe there may have been some creative editing going on.

.

If I was ever asked to be interviewed by the media, I believe my one condition would be that I could create a copy of the interview as well. That way I have the unedited version to use in a court of law for when I sue them for slander, misrepresentation and anything else my lawyer can dream up.

Being able to show what a bunch of lying cockroaches they are could prove to be a lot of fun.

Or they will berate others for not falling into line with them.

I am a strong believer in the 2A, but..........

I realize many of you wisely do not FB, therefore:

In a heavily edited interview on CBS 17 yesterday, a GRNC volunteer’s remarks were taken out of context to imply that Grass Roots North Carolina opposes the sale of 80% lower receivers. That assertion is false. The position which the reporter avoided relaying was as follows:

“If gun ban advocates are worried about 80% lowers, they should be truly alarmed by the prospect of people using 3-D printers to make guns in their basements, because each underscores the fallacy of gun control; namely, that you can somehow control the behavior of violent individuals by restricting their access to potential implements of mayhem. Prohibition didn’t work for alcohol, it isn’t working for drugs, and it won’t work for guns.”

So where's the actual quote from the interview with the missing context to make it mean the opposite of what he said?

If there's more context, show the context in which the taped statement was made.....

@GRNC please provide the context that makes what your rep said mean the opposite of how it reads, and how you guys did not say Americans engaged in lawful activities should be treated with suspicion or as n'er do wells....

I linked the FB post and copy& pasted the exact text @GRNC pasted on their FB page for information only . Please address your concerns directly to @GRNC and their representatives here. I am neither a GRNC rep nor affiliated with them, thank you.

After racking my brain all day, I think I may have figured it out....

He wasn't 'taken out of context', just playing 4d chess; we cannot possibly understand.

Perhaps we can get Squishy to splain it to us.

Honestly I'm waiting with baited breath for the condescending broadside from Our Lord and Savior Paul Valone telling us to get in line or get out of the way so he can kick the arses 'cause we're just simpletons he hasn't got time to deal with...

Oooooh boy. What if those homemade guns shoot full semi auto?

Seriously will these people never learn? The ONLY way I’d ever do an interview is if I had in writing that I could review any final cut for slants or altering my words for a narrative with financial/legal repercussions if they do

Yeah, you would think a group as smart as they say they are, would know better to do an interview without final approval.

Never going to happen. Bigger people and groups than GRNC can't get final edit approval. So if you feel the need to be on TV or in the mainstream media you have to roll the dice. And they are loaded dice. The key would be to find people that have a small enough ego to not want the big media, and that are smart and creative enough to use alternatives in these modern times. Seems we have an orange haired guy in DC that worked around main street media pretty well to get his thoughts out.

Everyone is talking about getting a copy of the full interview. With the advent of smartphones today, much less small camcorders, just film/record the interview yourself as well. You would think a group that kicks so much ass would have thought of that.

Marc is not the director of GRNC; his comments were taken out of context. The media is dishonest.

I've asked before, and I'll try one more time. If anyone wants to volunteer your time and talent, please to promote gun rights in NC let me know. If you feel that you can do more within the GRNC umbrella than outside to affect some change, please help.

Volunteer activism sucks for the most part; you can't make everyone on your side happy, there is no financial gain and the work never stops because the gun grabbers never stop. We on the right tend to pause after victory which only gives the opposition time to regroup, refinance, to advance their agenda. NC's Republican leadership is refusing to any progunlegislation right and we have a super majority-very frustrating.

For those that continue to disparage GRNC on this board, I will likely never win you over. However, may I ask that you provide more constructive criticism that includes alternative approaches for problem-solving? I will happily present any good ideas to GRNC's leadership team.

You've already had someone step up and volunteer. He's still waiting on someone to acknowledge his offer.

And, we've yet to see just exactly how the comment was taken out of context. What was he trying to say that was edited? We know the media is dishonest. We'd like to see just what they did to twist his comment.

@GRNC I hope this link goes directly to the post where you have a volunteer offering to step up. @TheWallrus it is a great guy and would be an asset to your organization.

Also, In that thread and in this one you have had constructive criticism. If you have not taken the time to read the individual posts to pick it out, take a second look – there is some good feedback in there

How?

"I represent lawful gun owners. Lawful gun owners don't have to make their own firearms," said Marc Erickson

Based upon that statement and the manner in which he stated it, it sounded as though he was inferring that folks who make their own firearms were "suspect".

If you could provide a complete transcript of his comments, perhaps it would assist us in seeing just how much the media twisted his words. I would think that in an effort to be as unambiguous as possible, he could have stated that "lawful gun owners" do make their own firearms and it is 100% legal for them to do so.

As it stands now, from what I have seen/heard, it appears he was providing the media with fuel, by attempting to draw a line of separation between folks who purchase complete weapons (lawful gun owners) and those who purchase partially finished weapons and do their own machining to render them functional.

Sometimes the best damage control is to avoid doing any damage in the first place.

The anti- gun groups are relentless. That is a given. They advocate for any measure that moves their agenda forward to the goal of outlawing citizen ownership of any firearm.

With that understanding, what is the objective of GRNC? If the battle you wage is to stop the 'threat of the day', then it is apparent that you are waging a defensive war with handicapped rules of engagement. The stated goal of any 2A organization should be the removal of all restrictions, "shall not be infringed", on ownership of any and all weapons.
Fight for the ideal set forth by the founders, not just defending against the attack of the moment. Then you will gain support.

As far as Marc is concerned, dump him publically or show where he was abused by the media!

I’ve truly come to not respect the “leader” of GRNC as I believe one gains more fly’s with honey rather than vinegar....

I accept opinions are like “(edit to) nostrils” we all have ‘em. They don’t all experience the same smells.....

But as to how the media, even locally portrays things. I have a good example I think....

http://wlos.com/news/local/whitewater-falls-reopens-after-wildfire-damage

I specifically asked to not be filmed. They assured me it would be just my hands. But I’m the fat effer in the sleeveless shirt and grey gloves..... I was a part of that job in the last two days..... The 3 second shot of the fella, climbing the last of those stairs with hands on thighs, is the only shot of the man who made it all happen as fast and without compromise as truly occurred...

I show this to say in my unwanted 15 seconds of “fame” the “media” screwed every last bit of the credit up.....

Makes me skeptical about all of it. More so than before...

The story seems to point to the sale of these firearms after they have been machined to a functioning device? To my understanding of the federal gun laws, it is already illegal to sell a firearm you have manufactured without the appropriate FFL license. So one who gets an 80%, machines it, adds the rest of the components, does not serialize it, and sells it would have some questions to answer. Serializing your lower is as easy as taking it to the trophy shop. Not that I would serialize mine, but I would be less than likely to sell it once completed (see below).

Further, the 80% lower market seems to be geared more towards the enthusiast. I know if I grabbed an 80% and all the associated tooling to finish it I would keep that sucker forever!

GRNC issued a press release. I may not have posted it, and if so I apologize. Like the rest of GRNC's "leadership/staff/core group of volunteers," I occasionally get overwhelmed with work (I travel heavily out of state weekly, have a family, a home and a farm to maintain-I miss stuff.

If anyone is willing to help please let me know and email me at [email protected] or go to our website for a list of volunteer opportunities <https://www.grnc.org/defend-your-rights/volunteer-for-grnc> . Reviewing this thread, I see there have been some offers extended, apparently I missed it.

It might be worth considering some of the accomplishments <https://www.grnc.org/home/about-grnc/grnc-accomplishments> we (GRNC including all the activist who help by responding to our alerts and contributed to the cause) have achieved during the course of our activism.

As for the suggestion to "dump Marc" I feel that is an unfair request for several reasons. Marc does a lot for this organization and brings years of media and technical experience for no compensation; he does a lot of good. He would leave a vacuum that would be difficult if not impossible to fill.

Gun Rights are a sensitive and emotional subject for both sides. Some organizations have tried compromise and it has failed. Every compromise is a concession of our rights going back to the 1934 NFA, the 1968 gun control act, 1986 firearms protection act and the list goes on. When we have an opportunity to regain lost ground, when gun owners have handed the GOP a supermajority in NC we can't get our politicians to act. To say this is frustrating is an understatement.

Sooooo....the same drivel as on your FB page.

Where exactly is his whole quote? How was it twisted? Where are the words "I represent lawful gun owners. Lawful gunowners don't have to make their own firearms", where are the words that come before, or the words that come after?

This is three times GRNC has royally stepped in it with the members of this forum.
I was neither a fervent supporter nor a hater of GRNC for a long time, but I have given both money and my time by showing up at gatherings. But, until the organization answers the actual questions asked of it instead of tap dancing around them, acknowledges the missteps made, and quits doubling down on those missteps, I will not support them with time or money ever again.
GRNC is actively alienating a resource in the people of this forum. An organization that is as smart as they say they are should recognize that.

GRNC keeps saying things like 'step up', how about doing your own stepping up.
