anyone on here taking the Sage Dynamics class in Burnsville NC June 16-17? I just stumbled across it on their website. Looks like its going to be at Blue Ridge Marksmanship range in Bunnlevel. Anyways I am probably taking it if there is still room and was wondering if anyone was going. I'll have to get a hotel room somewhere close since its a couple hours from the house.

Signed upend paid my $$$ this evening for this class. Surely someone else is going or knows someone who is! Anyone know of a good hotel in the area?

It sounds interesting. And about 1 hour from home. An overnight stay would probably work for me.

What do you know about this class?

Yeah sorry about that. Let me know if your going to attend. Aaron was fairly quick to respond to the emails I sent him. I'm definitely looking forward to it. I wish he was doing a rifle class close but I don't see one on his calendar

Zbizzle911,
I'm going to have to pass on this opportunity. When I look at what else I've got going on, well the stars are just not aligned. :(
Hope that you have a great time, and learn a lot. Please give us all a report afterwards !

Where’s a good place to stay a couple nights near there? It’s too far to drive it for me.

Most every chain hotel is up that way near Weaverville. I really haven't spent much time in that area though.

Ok thanks i'll check into them. Let me know if you decide to take this class! Have you shot at the blue ridge marksmanship range?

Class looks interesting but just a little out of driving range for me. Also not too many hotels within 30 minutes or less.

Burnsville is in the boonies. Not a lot of people around and a great place to escape. Pretty country too.
Be sure to visit Price Creek General Store, awesome gun guys and great deals. Best bet for hotels is like Tim said, Weaverville..from there it's an easy country drive to Burnsville. You may wanna look into B&B's in the area or maybe an Air B&B set-up. There's some of those around there too.

I found this place which I thought might fit the bill for the night.

Is there any tent camping or state parks in the area?

You can pitch a tent just about anywhere in Pisgah NF. Doesn't need to be a designated campground. Some spots immediately road adjacent will be posted, but walk 100yards down a trail and you're good to go.

Are there any updates on this class? I just signed up and got a B&B reservation.

Are you bringing anything in particular for the rain besides a jacket?

No. Not sure I'm going to make it though. Seems as though I've hurt my foot. Feels like theres an ice pick in the top of my right foot. Got an appointment with the orthopedist tomorrow to see WTF I've done. Super bummed. I've sent Aaron an email about it haven't heard back from him yet though.

In a walking boot for a while so not going to make it. Make sure and let me know how it goes and what you think of it!
What was the diagnosis?

So what'd I miss? Was it worth it?
In my opinion, it was worth every penny. The weather was surprisingly decent for almost of it. Aaron's a cool dude. He told great stories and really knew his stuff. His instruction was broken down well and he demonstrated a lot of stuff. The first day was mostly what he covers in his videos, but better since it's in person and he could answer questions. Stuff like grip, sight alignment/picture, shooting while moving forwards/backwards, etc. The second day started with a conversation on verbal commands, then a cold open on a scenario where there were 1-2 threats with guns in a group of innocents. It was interesting to see how everyone handled their scenarios, which were all different and you didn't know what you had until you turned around and assessed the situation. From there, it was one handed shooting, common malfunctions, then shooting from kneeling and supine. Finally, there was a qualification to pass the class (all 50 shots on target from 3-25 yards) and, if you performed well enough (no more than 4 shots outside of B zone/head), you got a patch. I performed really well (no hits outside of B zone/head) until the last 5 shots at 25 yards. I discovered during the class that my sights shoot really low at that distance. In order to get high thoracic hits, I have to aim at the top of the head. Well, I got excited at the very real possibility of getting that patch and lost focus. I instinctively aimed at the shoulders and all 5 shots hit a little below the B zone (a few were within a couple inches I think), barely disqualifying me from getting a patch. I also shot a clean target right beside my actual target because I couldn't see the holes at that distance. I don't know why it was there, but it was. Aaron was forgiving on that haha. I took those failures home with me as a lesson that just because you may have the skills and be "good" enough, losing focus can be detrimental. In real life, I could've lost a lot more than just a patch.

Overall, I learned a lot and improved a good amount in the class. I had a grip issue caused by my small hands that was causing me to shoot low and left semi consistently at distance. Aaron helped me fix that. I asked him a ton of questions about a bunch of things ranging from gear to tactics while on breaks, and he was always more than willing to share his wisdom. He knows how to get his point across while being serious, sarcastic, and funny all at once. I plan on taking another class from him as soon as I can. This was my first defensive class (because the ccw class doesn't count if we're all being honest), and I'm glad I took it from someone of his caliber.

I hate you missed it, man.
