Amazon Goes Nuts

I got a magpul qd swivel today, came in a 12”x8”x8” box. They must get great shipping rates.

I have read they do it to help load trucks more efficiently, so everything fits better. No idea if that is true.

Got a baggie of A/C O Rings inside a 12x8x8 box.o_O

At my P/T job I say the vendors make more money on the cardboard boxes then the items packaged inside.

Coming from someone who loaded trucks for multiple furniture places, fedex and ups, I will say it makes sense. It’s a PITA loading a trailer with random size and shaped boxes.

I used to unload trailers for Micheal's. Picture a container filled floor to ceiling with no two boxes the same size, anything from the size of a vhs tape to a recliner chair, all tossed in with no particular thought or planning.

Oh fun times lol. I had similar experiences while work for Mitchell Gold Bob Williams. Big ass armoires down to little glass balls about the size of a softball.

FedEx and UPS was the worse, When sorting and unloading

Let's just say it was bad enough I jumped at the chance to clean the khazi rather than work the unloading crew lol

Coming from someone who is involved with shipping via UPS / FedEx daily, regardless of how small the contents are you need a box at least as big as the shipping label.

I'll try to find the pic, but I ordered a mini pen off of Amazon and the container it came in was ridiculously huge for it.
When I say 'mini pen' I am speaking of the Zebra Mini, its about 3.5" long and 1/4" diameter.
The packaging was so large I thought that, surely, I'd ordered something else.

I have ordered a $5 item from Amazon on a Friday and it will be delivered to my door on a Sunday.

From Amazon: Ordered a Armor all car vac that came in a generic cardboard box that they had obviously just thrown the vac in with all the attachments loose inside. Box was thrown on my front porch by USPS. I heard it hit. Ordered a 4' mini rca to rca cable and it came in a yellow amazon padded mailer inside a bubble mailer. Go figure.

This is true--at least at their warehouses, it is. It's all about space efficiency, not organization. The computers remember/know where everything is. I'd imagine it's similar on the trucks. Wouldn't be surprised if they rent the trucks by the whole truck, rather than pay per package.

I just got a UPS delivery of 24 batteries, blister pack busted open inside a too big padded mailer with a 1" thick best of cd collection. They obviously dont give a crap how they pack anything as long as they get it out the door and on the next jet. They are sending me another pack of batteries no charge and keep the ones I got. And they are the darlings of Wall Street. Fang stocks baby. That's where the moneys at. My rocking chair money was in GE. The next time you hear someone say, "You want fries with that?" It might be me.

I ordered a tent last Monday, went camping Thu, Fri, Sat and was not happy with the tent. When I returned home my kid had already burned the huge box it came in but has promised to find an even bigger box to return it in.

You really wanna have fun, order one of the memory foam type mattresses that comes in a small box. Sleep on it for awhile, then return it. Call them up and ask how to pack it up, and they'll say put it back in the box it came in. Good luck with that!!

Buddy did that and it took talking to at least 4 people to explain why that wasn't going to work. They ended up just telling him to keep it, and refunded his $1000 anyway. ;)
