Jerek had a pretty good week. It is exhausting going up to the clinic 4 times a week but at least most of them were short visits. He stays tired and yesterday morning he felt pretty bad. We figured he would probably need blood. They did labs when we got there and his hemoglobin was low. He needed 2 units of blood. We ended up spending the majority of the day there because there was a miscommunication between the nurses in the clinic and the blood bank. We had to be there at 8:30. We had to wait for his labs to get back before they would run his chemo. They finally started the chemo at 10 and it was finished at 10:30. After everything got straightened out with the blood bank, the blood finally arrived at 1. It takes 2 hours to run 2 units of blood, so by the time it finished running and they unhooked everything it was 3:30 when we actually left. It was a long wasted day of waiting. If it wasn’t something he needed in order to feel better he would have definitely walked out on them. At least yesterday was the last day for this week and he is off until Monday.

I saw some comments inquiring about how many more treatments he has. The next 2 weeks he only goes in twice a week. The first day of each week is for labs and chemo and the second day of each week is just for labs and possible transfusions if his counts are low. These are the last 2 weeks of the second course. There are 5 courses total, so once he finishes these next 2 weeks, he will have 3 more courses to go. Course 3 and 4 are 8 weeks each. For these 16 weeks, he will have to go into the clinic 2-4 times a week for treatment and labs. As long as nothing unexpected happens and he is able to stay on track with his treatment plan, he should finish the 4th course in November. Course 5 is the longest course. It will last about 2.5 years. It is also much more independent. He only has to go into the clinic once a month during this course and will be on chemo pills daily.

He is also currently taking anti-seizure medication and blood thinner shots. They did an MRI while he was in the hospital this second time and the blood clots have improved tremendously. His doctor does want him to stay on these medications for the full 6 months so he should be able to come off of these around October. All in all, he has come a long way but still has a long way to go. He will have another bone marrow biopsy at some point, we’re just not sure when. Again, thank you for all of the prayers and please keep them coming.

Thanks for the update and we'll travel alongside in spirit on this rocky road. You'll get there! Keep on truckin'.

Praying each and every day for all of you.

Steady progress :)
