This is considered legal open carry in NC, right?

I'd like to think that it would be pretty hard for someone to slip up on me and grab my gun out of my holster before I knew they were near me. I'm always very aware of who or what is going on around me when I'm out.

One of my friends here who is a trainer, and master class shooter described how he was at an ATM recently at 7AM and someone was behind him begging money before he could get turned around good with that $100 in his hand. He stood the guy down without having to draw, but it could have ended otherwise.

Like I mentioned a few posts up, my friend who was considering IWB for OC has gone in a different direction so it's moot at this point. Thanks for the suggestions.

Sounds like the trainer could use a little more training on situational awareness. Especially if he had his guard down at an ATM.

On the contrary. I think the takeaway is that it can happen to anyone.

In all fairness, I hafta pay a monthly retainer
Whatever you're paying, I'll do it for 1/2...as long as you arrange automatic drafts from your bank. :D

I can relate. I'm always very aware of my surroundings and who is near me. Or so I thought. One day I walked out of a customer meeting and was getting in my car. Before I knew it, some woman was within 3 feet of me begging for money. I had no idea she was there until I heard "Excuse me!" I was so pissed off at myself for letting somebody get that close to me without me even knowing it. All I could say to her was "You've got a lot of nerve walking up to somebody you don't know while their back is turned to you" I had my hand in my pocket thinking.."Crap... my 38 is under the seat."

Could I sneak up behind someone?? You betcha I could, most people either have their head up their butt or their on the phone looking for an App to help them get it up there!!
Could someone sneak up behind me?? Extremely unlikely, my head and senses are on a ball bearing swivel anytime I'm out of the house and even when IN the house I'm always alert to any "strange" noise. Plus no one knows I even have a gun, much less where I'm carrying it.......

I am, I am Superman and I can do anyhting... says REM.

What say the? Pride commeth before the fall?

Well, you've never been in the right bar then! I should have guided you through Vegas. Or maybe not? :p

BUT, you can open carry while.drunk as a skunk because there's no law against it...LOL

And I don't think it's illegal to OC at a bar if you have your CC permit.

I love this game, guess what stupid law NC does and does not have. lol

This has come up a few times, and sooner or later, someone will cite the statutes, but here it is:

In NC, you cannot bring a firearm into a restaurant that serves alcohol unless you have a CHP. For those who do have their CHP, the manner of carry is not specified in the statute, so open and concealed are both legal. You cannot conceal if you have any alcohol in your system, but there is no such prohibition for open carry.

Remember my thread about a year ago, where some goobers went into a pizza place in Cary and sat at the bar OC'ing and drinking a beer? Owner didn't say anything to them but was terrified that the Alcohol Troopers would walk in and rip his ABC permit off the wall. As soon as they left, he found a gunbuster sign and the place has been posted ever since.

What is NCs law on open carry and drinking in a bar?
i think if you're drinking you're not supposed to have a gun on your person. But this is the south, so maybe you can drink while armed....though that sounds like a really baaaad idea to me!!!

Millie! Welcome back!

Hello, and thanks. I can't wait to get my CC so I can quit worrying about my gun being where it's supposed to be! Lol.

Just to keep the sh** stirred, no one has mentioned private property. Can I drink and be armed there??? LOL....
Not in Alaska btw......see a guy on Alaska State Troopers get charged for 'holding or possessing firearms while intoxicated' while standing in his living room and we just had a case nearby (either NC or SC can't remember) of something very similar.
