Ambulance to RV

Almost done done with it, went to Cape Hatteras, 374miles one way then week at work then to Bryson City for the 4th.

Starting on water tanks (fresh, gray) then a little shower/toilet.....

Very nice. Wish I would of known you were going to be in Hatteras. I would of loved to see it.

Very nice. You took a $500,000 ambulance and made a low cost camper. Bet you wouldn’t try to make it back into a operating ambulance? Ambulances are built like a tank.

I like what you done with the bed, very utilitarian.

What MPG are you getting with it?

Actually it was a lot cheaper than that plus it was “aged out of service”.

and as for a low cost camper have you seen how much the things go for when they are converted?

Your right about built like a tank, overkill on everything, every light, switches, breakers, fuses, all had a back up wire in case the primary was broken..... but when I drive it you get all warm and fuzzy feelings because it’s so cool!!!!

Yes. I worked on a bunch of them for air issues. Those suckers are big bucks. They’re full of breakers at shitty wiring. I would love to have that for a weekender.

Air as in ac or air ride? Mine had rear ac (front ac and rear ran off one ac compressor) and that never really worked so I put a pop up camper ac unit on it, and at the beach when it’s 110 heat index and its 72 inside..... well it’s like a little piece of heaven.

I worked on the air conditioning. Front, rear, and what is called shore power air (auxillery unit for static conditions for comfort before a call). I also would troubleshoot electrical issues related to the generator/inverter. The issues seemed to be endless with air and generator powered outlets.

You should be proud of the project. Bring it over and I’ll tailgate out of it to keep it from sitting and rusting.

I Googled "4x4 ambulance conversion" and found a ton of enviable DIY project pics. Can't wait to see how yours turns out!

I'll take mine in a rollover compaired to a motor home or camper. My "box" is built with 2x2 square tubing on 12 center, plus I drive like I love not like I stole it.....and yes I'm in the rescue squad (emt) they are some I wouldn't ride with if the world was on fire. Some people get there rocks off by driving a rescue or fire truck like a idiot but not me. Just because lights and siren are there doesn't give the right away. Some thinks it does but it doesn't.

12 mpg to the coast 10 in the mountains

Thanks on the bed comment wanted bunk beds but the wife wanted the setup that’s in there now.

10-12 ain't bad for a motorhome thats about what I get in my class B which is just a large Chevy van conversion with a gas engine and 2 wd.

I'd like to see pics of the bed without the mattress on it.

Did I see you getting fuel at Foothills Grocery getting fuel the other day? I was walking out….you and your wife were walking in…. That thing is looking great!
