Article on an Industrial 8 gauge shotgun

I have a single shell for one of those. Looks like a zinc slug. It is an impressive conversation piece.
 
There are also cannons used to intentionally preemptively trigger avalanches in steep snowy mountains.
 
They used to use one at the rock quarry in Aquadale. They would burn the shale rock in a furnace and shot out the plug in the opening to let the solite out. I used to have a shell that a buddy gave me.
 
Pretty cool to see in operation. They have them at many paper mills on their lime kilns.
 
When Union Carbide was in operation up in Charleston WV, they used those 8 gauge shotguns to clean out certain pipes at the plant.
