I remember seeing those on the store shelves, way back yonder.
Reports of velocities of more than 4,000 feet per second are more than possible, as the sabot drops off right at the barrel opening, leaving the small .22 projectile to speed on its way.
Due to the Democrats anti-gun issues, as no rifling marks are on the 22 projectile that is fired from the firearm, Remington yielded to government pressure and stopped making the accelerators in 308 (7.62 NATO) & 30-06 as they are fired in military semi-auto and fully auto rifles.

That bullet shape does not look very aerodynamic, and that would make a huge difference at 4000 fps. Therefore I expect these were only real good for blowing up varmints (and the occasional traceless assassination) at relatively close ranges , they would no where near match the performance of a HPBT for example at long ranges.

I may still have a box of those.

I have a box or 2 that I got from my Granddad. I think only 2 or 3 are missing from the box. I think he said the accuracy was not very good with them in a 1903!

My cousin used to have some of these way back in the 80’S Black Talon days,
It was a cool concept,
And speeds of around 4000 FPS were reported, accuracy is for cr@p because they really didn’t have the tech down yet,
It can also heat up your barrel...
Nice souvenir, but I wouldn’t use them in any weapon you care about

Our resident rifleer, Jerry Lundy shot a 3 round clover leaf with those with my NM Tanker in '06 from a picnic table and sand bags. He or I one have that target dated and witnessed. He can do it. As in most cases, itsda Injun not da arrer.

I used to shoot those in a 30-30 back in the early 80’s. 3600 FPS as I recall.

Their lethality on varmints was notable. One day I had a skunk get caught in a snare that was set in a hole in the fence in my back yard. We’re talking about 30’ from my back door. No way to get it out of the snare w/o getting sprayed, so on a whim I shot it from 50’ with the 30-30 accelerator. I kid you not - it literally blew the skunk apart. No spray, and problem solved.

I had rounds similar to this for the M2/.50 BMG in Iraq. They were the M903 SLAP rounds with a 360gr tungsten sabot. I only had a 100rd belt of them; the vast majority of my ammo was 662gr M8 (API: Silver and Green Tip) and M20 (APIT: Silver, Green and Orange/Red tip)

For it's time, it was OK.

Out of the 30-06, this 55 gr, .224 diameter bullet hit almost 4,100 fps.

Accuracy wasn't great, as to be expected, and the bullets would keyhole targets at 100 yards from my experience.

I think I'll stick to my Wolf Gold .223 at around 3,200 fps.
