Favorite Restaurants of CFF members--Post Here

If you live in or visit Charlotte try Midwood Smokehouse on Central Avenue. The burnt ends of brisket caramelized is killer as is all the bbq. Had the smoked jalapeño bacon wrapped appetizer. Really good. Maybe the best non sandwich BBQ meal I’ve had. Its a must try.

Chow in N. WakeCo. has some damn good pizza and expensive draft beers. Dont know if they are CCW friendly or not. I always get a beer so no CCW for me there.

Ummh! Burnt Ends!...have to use your Homer Simpson voice.

I plan to be at The Depot at Cody Creek today around 6-ish. I'll be wearing a CFF shirt. Say hi if you see me.

I have a new favorite restaurant. It is Suba’s in Mountain City Tennessee. Sorry it isn’t closer to you guys. I live in he middle of nowhere. They have the best steak I have ever tasted. The ribs and chicken cannot be beat, and the desserts are the best I have ever tasted. The owners are chefs and the wife’s speciality is desserts.

It is a small place with a few tables that you need to call ahead so there is a table open, or even make a reservation. But is worth it if you are out that way.

Please tell us, how did you have your steak prepared?

Can I cook you are rare steak this weekend and get you on video eating it? Could be epic.
You might want to start with world peace and work your way up to that one.

Moose Cafe in Asheville for breffes or lunch. Next to the WNC Farmers Markets.
Solid grub. Always friendly service.

Carole and I have been disappointed that no one posted anything in Rocky Mount, Tarboro, Zebulon, Wendell, Knightdale, or surrounding. I thank the folks for the Clayton references.

FWIW, we really like McLeans in Zebulon. Very homey atmosphere, great people, plenteous portions, good food, reasonable prices. Sister's deli in Bunn is pretty good (the flies during the summer are pretty rough).

and... if you are WAY WAY WAY WAY off the beaten path, and ever in Oaxaca Mexico, go to the market day friday in the Zocalo in Jalatlaco (a wealthier neighborhood in the northwest). They have various restaurants who do the equivalent of setting up food trucks around the park. There is some Argentinian guy who only does steaks and sausages. He owns and manages a 5 star restaurant in the city. I think he just likes to do this for fun, because his prices there are less than a fifth of the restaurant, but his steaks are just AMAZING. I ate a filet there the last time I was down which was just the best food I had ever eaten. He had some crazy mix of spices on it, which was unusual because I like the raw flavor of the meat (I eat them rare), with just salt and pepper, but this was heavenly. I have eaten in restaurants all over the world and had some pretty good food, but this one stands out. I used to eat there every Friday when I was down.

If anyone knows of some good places in Rocky Mount, I would be interested. Thanks in advance

I lived in Tarboro for 10 years. I can't recall any really exciting restaurants being there when I lived there.

They have food trucks outside the Tarboro Brewing Company, I have heard those are good. Abrams is good country cooking, but we didn't go there often. There's a Japanese steakhouse in Rocky Mount that isn't bad, Ichiban I think.

In my immediate area I like:

Rutherforton Thai: This place really surprised me. I expects something good enough for small town NC but this place is on point. Rivals things in the Washington DC area.

Yellow Sun Brewery: Rutherfordton, NC Solid pizzas that rival some of the high end shops in bigger towns.

Asia Pacific Super Market in Greenville , SC.:This place is authentic Chinese food. Not the normal take out made with the same brown sauce out of a can. A huge plus is they are also a Asian grocery store.

Copper Penny Grill in Forrest City, NC: Solid burgers, steaks and American fare. Good beer selection. They are opening a new one in Rutherfordton this fall/winter.

Jalapeño Fresh Grill Marion, NC: Real mexican food not your avg place slapping the same tired tex mex on the plate covered in cheese and calling it Mexican. Perfect place to stop before running the running the Diamondback in your car or on your motorcycle of choice.

Corner BBQ
Rutherfordton, NC: Great cash only lunch spot. Solid Cue.

Sierra Nevada in Asheville, NC: Get a seat at the bar and get a set of wings and their duck fat fries. Wash it down with your beer of choice.

Blue Ginger Sushi at the Equestrian center in Tryon, NC: It is a little pricey but everything he has is top quality. Stuff that you would normally only find in large cities. James the owner/chef is awesome.

Husk in Charleston is excellent higher end food. IMHO the one is Greenville is not as good Upscale low country food locally sourced. James Beard award winner.

Fig in Charleston, SC is a nice spot for a upscale meal. Lots of local ingredients and inventive preparations.

The Raw Charleston, SC : Amazing fresh seafood. Sit at the bar and order of the daily menu.

Buxton Hall Asheville, NC : True slow smoked whole hog BBQ. I love me some pork butts but there is nothing like whole hog BBQ done right. Great drinks from the bar as well. More expensive than your avg BBQ joint but as a treat its worth it.

Honestly 95% of the time I am cooking and eating at home.

My 3 favorite restaurants in the world.

Le Bernardin in NYC: 3 Michelin Star restaurant in the heart of Manhattan. Owned and run by Eric Ripert, best friend of the now deceased Anthony Bourdain. He is a superstar chef but what sets him apart from others is that he still cooks. He is in the restaurant running the kitchen more often than not. I have eaten there 3 times and each time he was present and running the kitchen.

Alain Ducasse au Plaza Athénée; Paris, France. Everything about this place is stunning. The hotel that houses it that room you are in. It is a once in a lifetime kind of meal. Very vegetable focused. Does stuff that blows your mind. 3 Michelin Stars and I am actually surprised they do not have 4.

Momofuko Ko in NYC. This is David Changs flagship restaurant. Minimal tables most of the seating is at the bar which rings the open kitchen where they cooking the entire meal. 7 course meal that ends up taking about 2.5 hours. Lots of Asian influenced dishes. The Momofuko Egg is a show stopper.

This has probably been mentioned and if it has, it's worth mentioning again.

Carolina Diner on Regional Rd. in Greensboro and Eastchester Dr. just north of Main St. in High Point.

They have good homestyle food and on Thursdays, their chicken and dumplings lunch special is very good.

Dinner from Hickory to Mooresville area. Lineberger’s Steakhouse on Hwy 150 west of Mooresville. Excellent prime rib and steaks. Also chicken and seafood dinners. Their salad bar is the best around fresh real products. Beer, wine, mixed beverages. Very busy every night Tuesday-Saturday. Open afternoons till 9:30pm only.

Lineberger's has the best prime rib I've ever eaten. I like the Woodshed in downtown Stanley too. One of my all time favorites is Hillbilly's Barbeque & Steaks in the Lowell/McAdenville area. Their ribs are amazing!

I skipped quite a few pages, so I may have missed the mention, but has anyone eaten here?

I haven't, so I can't say how it is. A buddy of mine from Garner just read about them and figured it may be worth a try sometime.

One of my favorite barbeque joints just down the road has just closed for good. Allen & Sons Barbeque between Chapel Hill and Hillsborough has been run since 1971 and has won numerous awards for it's great Q. Now it's closed forever. Sad.

@tanstaafl72555 - I grew up in Rocky Mount and there used to be some great places there. After the flood when Bob Melton's moved from the river's edge their barbeque wasn't nearly as good. When I was a kid in the 50's it was THE place for Sunday lunch. Haven't been back in years so I can't speak of what's there now.

Great sadness. Despair. Woe. Best Q in the area by far. Forever gone. Sadness. Much sadness

Apex, NC- Mexican with a relaxed atmosphere, great food. We took the kids last week, ten of us, and the food was great. The King Ranch Burrito rocks

I like their food but their little cleanliness rating was below 90 once and now my wife is afraid. Should I tell her next time I drop a wing and put it back on the grill? :D

Posted in another thread,
In Fredericksburg VA
Mason Dixon Cafe

Really good breakfast!
Everything is local - meat from local farms, same for veggies etc
Farm to table

Our favorite pizza place is in Chatham County, so it's a bit of a drive for us, but it's not a chain, it's wood fired, and it's fantastic. Located in Briar Chapel off 15-501, it's worth the drive. Capps Pizzaria. https://cappspizzeria.com/

We hit up a local Italian joint in Mebane probably twice a month, some months even more. It's pretty close to home, the food is good, the prices are decent, and we've gone so often the staff all knows us. We always get pasta, always. We've heard their pizza is good, but in the 6 or 7 years we've been going there, we always get pasta. http://www.ciao-pizza.com/

Totally worth it. It's right down the street from my sister-in-law's house.

Texas Road House in Aberdeen....
I've only been once, but I had the best salad ever! That thing was in the biggest bowl I've ever seen, and I took half the salad home with me in a box. It has a nice local bar feel to it that I like. I'm going back on Saturday for another salad, yummm.

The Kingsman - Cayce, SC
House of Pizza - South Congaree, SC

Full Circle Cafe 708 Evans St, Morehead City
I’ve never had anything there that wasn’t amazing. They cook their sourdough crust pizza in a brick oven so the crust is crisp. The steak was cooked medium rare and was very tender and delicious. The salmon and orzo with asparagus is my favorite. They change up the menu often so their is different options. The yard bird pizza, Yum!

The Peddler in Boone is really good, but pricey.

Southern Lunch in Lexington, you have to get the fried tenderloin.

Main St Pizza in Lexington has amazing yeast bread that all subs are served on, or the Wisconsin cheese soup with a loaf of their yeast, garlic bread.
