What did you do in the reloading room today?

Ran through the last of my RMR 147gr plated and since they no longer offer those, I have to find another source for plated or FMJ bullets.

The plated were only 7c each. Everyone else seems to be selling plated for 9c, but RMR’s FMJ are 9c. I’ll wait for their BF sale to get 10-15% off and grab like 2k.

Set this bad boy up. I blame @Professor Chaos and @FatboyFlash for raving about theirs.

Not even a little bit sorry. Only thing I’ve done so far is to adjust the settings to my load and made a test batch 100- 200gr .40 major loads. Going to try and get out and shoot those before I go crazy and start filling ammo boxes.

cleaned the crap up off my bench that doesn't belong there, so I can get my reloading season started asap. I need some .300blk laid up for hard times for sure, and Grendel. And .300WM

After checking my component spreadsheet (yes I am a nerd) yesterday and realizing that I havent kept it updated in 2 years..I need to do an inventory this weekend.

Finally finished loading up all my match ammo for NRA/CMP service rifle in a late-night reloading session. Finished up 2,430 rounds of .223 (nosler 77gr load).

Now to crank out some 80gr long-line ammo for the CMP Talladega 600 matches next month

Did not do much reloading, but I did clean my guns from the trip to the range yesterday. I had a new AR upper (24" 223) that I just put together Saturday, in fact I used my bore scope to make sure the gas port lined up with the gas block. I measured the spent casings from it to check the headspacing and it all looks good.

Go ahead and get you a chopsaw from HFT and the jig to make .300blk brass fast, you'll thank yourself later. Especially if you happen upon a ton of 5.56 blanks.
And spare blades.
I thought the world was full of morons that thought 30 seconds per case was fast. Then I replaced the factory blade with another and realized where the biggest moron lived.

Loaded 600 of the same ol' 133gr 9mm load, ran out of clean brass.
Started on some 45acp test loads, didn't make it far. Will need to cast more bullets and stock up on LPPs before a production run anyway.

yeah I got a Proxxon (?) blade from Amazon or Ebay, made in the USA. Chewed thru that brass like a hot knife thru hydrolyzed soybean oil margarine.

Two sets of test loads for 7.62x39. One set is Berrys plated bullets and H4895 powder, the other is Hornady 123gn FMJ and H4198 powder.

Missed a beautiful day at the range today for sure, but the son was over and that's better than the range, most of the time. So I had to settle for playing in the reloading room.

Loaded up 50 rounds .243; 800 rounds of 40 S&W (all the brass I had - yeah); converted the press over to 9mm and loaded 100 to be sure everything was right. Tomorrow night start on some of the couple of thousand pieces of brass that I have on the bench.

Beginning to find some bulging case heads on some of the 9mm. Sure hope that stops. Shouldn't happen out of an M&P or fully supported aftermarket barrels. We will see I guess.

loaded 1,000 147 gn 9mm Blue bullets over TiteGroup and wet tumbled another 500 pieces. only had 5 buldged cases (whew). Must have been some pick up brass.

Why not try the Hi-Tek coated bullets?

The RMR fmj bullets are the only thing I will use in my 16" carbine. I can push them past 1500fps and they are very accurate. I picked them up on sale for ~$0.07 each.

I haven’t searched too hard but it seems like most coated are 7-8cents and I got RMR fmj’s for 8.2c last night.
I actually prefer the coated bullets. Cost less and you can push them well past 2,000fps. The Hi-Tek coating will not come off like plating.

Loaded up some rounds for another comparison - turned necks vs not-turned

Once again let me know how that goes. I have regarded .223 as "not worthy" of neck turning. but as with all things reloading and the pursuit of accuracy, I have to ask, "what can it hurt?". A set of arbors, mandrels, cutter and die is $100 from 21st century. So there is also, "the you have all the rest of the stuff" motive behind this. It won't take much of a push. I have some new Starline brass that is screaming " use me!", and I feel that I must "do right by it". I am a pass on the Forster seating dies and press, so this may also be a good use of those savings - well part of the savings. I will give the rest to the wife so that I can live with myself - NOT!!!!

I realize that 223 is probably not worthy of all this effort, especially since I am not loading it for a good bolt-action. BUT, I think it is still a good learning process, with a caliber that does not cost much money to load for and brass is essentially free. If I figure out all the things I can do to make accurate 223 ammo, then when I start loading for something more worthy (like 6.5C or 224V) then I am all set. I am leaning towards getting a good 224V barrel for an AR, especially since the mandrels and neck turning stuff I just bought will already work with it.

Loading again tonight. Have 63 45/70 on in the block. Just realize I only have 50 405 g and 60 532 g left. That is out of over 1000. And I thought I wasn't shooting much.

Just got back from the range - neck turned wins. Standard deviations and extreme spreads cut in half. Will post the numbers later.

Not terribly surprised by that one. I just finished a ladder to shoot tomorrow. Will use it as a baseline and ask Santa for the rest of the equipment to neck turn .223. Good thing Santa gets paid Friday.!!!!!

I reloaded 4K of 9mm on my 550B, load is mixed brass, 5.0grs CFE, 124gr Blue Bullets, and Win primers. I started Friday night, and finished this morning. This lot should last me till spring.

deprimed part of the last 40 call brass I have so I can tumble it and finish loading what I have then on to the 45 acp again
