Anybody renewed your vehicle registration on-line lately? The new system takes you through a "Text Message" style process to get the renewal done. I'm sure they think it's hip and all the cool kids will like it.

Just give me a simple web form. You already have all my info, let me just log-in, pay and move on with my day instead of playing 20 questions.

grrrr.....sometimes I really hate developers.

More bureaucratic bullshit

Insurance card handy? Why, they already have that info on my current registration. The insurance company informs them of any changes. Why make me jumpy thru another unnecessary hoop?

I hate the dmv

They already know if your insurance & inspection/emissions is up to date , they know every motor vehicle registered in your name it's in their system.
They're just complicating real simple stuff , the "engineers" have to justify their worthless existence.

I'm reminded of Spectrum cable , of which I'm a customer , calling me with all their wonderful offers. I told the woman I had what I wanted , told her I didn't want or need them calling me , take me off the calling list. She said it might take up to 30 days to get off the list. I said why would it take 30 days , you're sitting in front of a computer , looking at my account , mark me off the calling list right now. They haven't called since.

IS gotta earn their pay somehow.
Contracting web design is the easy button, they get a strong evaluation in May and you get to see your tax dollars at work. Everybody wins.

Each new set of IT and IS management needs to carve out resume bragging material in their new jobs. Whatever the last guy did sucks, we need a new process, a new redesign, a new program and everyone will thank me for that. Guy lasts in the job just long enough to create enough havoc and a poorly designed system goes into production. Replacement management holds a Post-Mortem and declares a new system is needed, Do Until Loop.

I went through the same thing. It's SLOWER than the prior web form, because it has to reload all the time, and requires more clicks. But you can tell, it's all about the look-and-feel. Lots of online stuff gets updated CONSTANTLY so various folks can justify their jobs and "contributions." If it works fine, leave it the hell alone.

Lots of high-end CAD software, and even Microsoft Office, gets the same kind of "upgrades." If I have to re-learn how to do the SAME DANGED THING...that's not an upgrade. It's a net loss to society, and an increase in entropy. Not that the folks who make these decisions will ever listen to me...or to any one of several million people telling them the same thing :p

Just mail them the check back. Cheaper and they have to do more work.

They have to make it more complicated since the emissions inspection was dropped. Wouldn’t want you to forget who’s in charge.

and leadership falls for it everytime

oh and you forgot the reorg - gotta have the reorg.

It Sucks. The old way was faster and made more sense. This new way is for people that love texting.

I agree, they dumbed down the renewal system, pretending to make it appear a real person is helping you.
You can't blame them, after all, all those who don't have an ID card to vote need hand holding.:)

New service contract was awarded, now another outside contractor takes the payment including the convenience fee.

I found out today. Thought I was on a scam site to start with.
Great another password and user name to write down.
No reason this shouldn't be as easy as amazon, click and ship.

Yeah, and for convenience they seem to have discontinued providing a return envelope!

aka Re-missioning, Skills Re-Balancing, Strategic Re-Alignment, ad infinitum. Gotta have those. And launch a few new Quality initiatives at the same time, cause no one ever thought of that before. And I read someplace that Globalization is a big thing, so lets get some of that going as well...Pointy Haired Boss

Which convenience fee didn’t exist before.

Previous to this year (the old site) it worked PERFECT and NO service charges or fees.

When I used the same bookmarked site last month, it looked new...and gave a choice, state site or third party.
No matter which I chose, it went to the third party.

Like mentioned above, I suspected a scam....so I waited a week and tried again.
Same results so I just went with it, selecting state site yet still sent me to the third party.
I was renewing three tags, and the fee was still $3. Good yes, but before there were no fee.

Anyhow, the next day......fraudulent attempt on my creditcard (same card). Coincidence? Beats me. CC cancelled, etc.

Tags arrived like normal, no problem there......but Damn, it worked perfect for years!
So change it and fk it up.....who knows where the “third party” is located.

Rant over. Just my experience.

Did any of you go in and leave comments? I did. Told them how stupid the new system was and asked why they had to farm it out to a 3rd party. Asked if it was because they were incompetent. I ask if the people in the stores worked for free as they do not charge a convenience fee and is more expensive than some stupid automated software.

The $3 convenience fee is not mentioned until you go to check out.

If enough people comment and complain, it may finally get to some one. Doubtful, but maybe.

I believe the 3rd party was in Kansas.

Soooooo....................what if you don't have a cellular telephone?

(Or if you just tell them you don't have one )

Can you then access a web page to get the renewal done?

.

The screen shot in my OP IS a web page. That was taken from ny laptop. They just coded the page to emulate a text message thread. Damned annoying.

Wifey , had to calm me down! The new process if awful! And to think I had to pay extra for this experience. I think I'll go stand in line next time just so I can personally see what the $3.00 convenience is actually worth

Where's a comment button or link for the new site. I did a plate renew Saturday and was wondering if they had a adult site (pc) vs the teenager site (mobile). On the PC, you could handle the whole thing in one page with lots of white space left
