Any skateboarders in here?

I would still ride a bit, but since my last argument with gravity I realize the costs involved in another break...someday I will put the new bushings in the trucks and cruise around the hood... GRANDPADUDE skates again.... coming to an emergency room near you....lol

What city do u live in?

Somebody mentioned Jamie Thomas and I immediately thought if of one of favorite skate videos.... Toy Machine, Welcome to Hell!!!!

A good chunk of it was filmed where I grew up skating.

Here's the bails section from the end of the video....

Getting me all nostalgic and stuff. I used to break boards so often I started riding Powell blanks because they were cheaper. I remember going through 5 in just shy of a month. Rode 8" wide boards with Independant trucks, and larger wheels.

Omg that hurts to watch lol. Ive watched some bad falls but that last one with the face plant was nasty! I watched some of the full vid, pretty cool though.

After getting a board from walmart...(at least it had aluminum trucks) after messing with that one for a while thats when I looked up what were some good board setups. Now I just get the Thunder trucks, some Reds bearings, and I also am using 8" Mini Logo, Flip, and a enjoi decks. Using Ricta Cloud 86a 53mm on 2 of the boards which roll sooo smooth, and some 53mm Ricta Sparx 101a on the enjoi.

Skateboarding has always fascinated me but I’m afraid at almost 30 years old it’s too late for me to start.

And these guys Braille Skateboarding have alot of very good how to's on everything skating...

If you're ever down near Wilmington my kid either skates or surfs every day after work and all weekend, weather permitting. He would be happy to have some company.

I think yours is a newer version of my old board ... mine was still wood the “BAHNE” in black grip strip. Yours reminds me of Denis Shufeldt’s board ... still got the Cadillac wheels on it? It also looks like the shock pads under the trucks are missing?

What area in Wilmington does he skate at?

Yes it still has the Cadillacs, hateful by modern standards. Have a child that skates and is into retro kinda stuff is the reason the pads are off. He had his million dollar billet 11mm or whatever downhill trucks on it for awhile.
I used to shoot a two mile really steep hill on the way home from the ranch when I was a kid. Damn thing would get the shakes so bad I would have to bail off into the grass a few times each pass.. I stopped trying once they chip sealed it, :(
I started riding my uncles board in the 70's. It was wood, said barefoot on it with green footprints. Metal trucks ducked on worn out driveway.

Everywhere, Ogden, Carolina Beach and Greenfield park are the main ones. He goes into the "city" early Sunday mornings and longboards as well.

Ok. Good to know. I do come to Carolina Beach probably once or twice a year. Ive always got my board in the car with me. Maybe one day we could possibly do that. Thanks for the invite!

Thanks for the response. I’ve been looking at the Braille videos after you linked that. I have been looking at Hookups Skatebords and Jeremy Klein boards.

You’re right they do look to nice and if I start actually using the board then the graphic won’t really matter. Thanks for the link. I’ve looked there before when trying to buy shoes but forgot about them when browsing for boards.

@wk9k because of this thread I ended up getting two boards but only one is complete. Ended up with this assembled board off eBay somebody was selling for $40. Flip Board, Krux Trucks, Flip 53mm wheels. Received it today and have been watching some videos and trying to Ollie.

Second board hasn’t arrived but it’s a Hookups/Jeremy Klein that I was able to buy at an online shop for retail as opposed to the $130-170 it’s fetching online. Figured I’d use it as a wall hanger after finding out they are hand screen printed and supposedly Jeremy Klein does it himself in his house. More of an art piece at this moment.

Last skating I did was the old steel skates that you strapped on your shoes. Then you used a “key” to clinch them tight on the shoe soles. o_O

That is awesome right on man. The Flip board was my first one I got. Then I saw they don't sell it anymore. So I bought the Mini Logo deck and have just been using that one. It has the softer 86a wheels. The enjoi deck im going to put the 101a hard wheels on. It just came in the mail yesterday from Tactics as well as the trucks and the "colorful little buddies" lol hardware. The Reds bearings I got off eBay. And the triple eight wrist guards u might want to get a set of those.... I had to take a pic... post a pic of the Hookups deck when u get it.

Julian Edelman, of the Patriots, is known to skateboard around Boston in the off season.
Yet most people that see him will only say "you look like that guy on the Patriots. Ha!

My JkIndustries/Hookups board came in and it’s going to be a wall hanger for sure.

Cool deck and shoes, Im out of commission right now, I broke my ankle the tibia and the fibula bone in 3 places not this past Sunday but the week before while I was skating. Supposed to have had surgery today but it was still swollen and bruised when they did the pre op yesterday, and it feels like knives stabbing my foot when I go to stand up with the crutches. Dont be like me and break your ankle (or wrist) lol. Its hell. So I have surgery next Wednesday to get some screws and a plate put in there. And I wont be back to work until probably late July early August? Really really puts a halt to things...

Wheels and blades aren’t meant to be under my feet, unfortunately. I did build a skatepark though. Not my design. I was part of construction helping t sort out the many issues between a skater “designer” and real-world “how the hell do you build this” stuff. We had to figure out drain covers—being in Florida, it can rain like no one’s business, so the bowls had to drain well. You also didn’t want someone’s finger getting int the slots while their body kept going! So we came up with a custom grate that was copied all over the US afterward. Other nerdy stuff that we field engineered that i won’t bore you with. I never skated it nor biked it (it wasn’t opened to bikes until years later), but I did run around it and up and down the bowl walls! Does that count?
