Also think about the fire control systems on the battleships of WW2.

I have a book about the USS North Carolina, talked about some of the other battleships, how until they got fire control radar they would have to use trigonometry. Crazy how far technology grew in 4 years during WWII.

Bold, too... I bet there were some folks that thought it was a real bad idea, until the prototype was tested.

Bet the Germans were some surprised to be knocked outa the sky when they thought they were a safe distance away!

The two most expensive projects during WWII was the B29 and the Manhattan project. The B29 was only used against the Japanese.

The B-29 in was radical in its day, they did not even have tools for some of the manufacturing, they had to invent the tools. Kind of like what Kelly Johnson had to do at skunk work for the SR-71. They also flew the B-29 into the early sixties and support of NASA.

Amazing what this Country can pull off.

We never flew the B29 in Europe because we did not want the Germans to get a hold of the design, afraid of what they might be able to do with it.

Do you have a source for this? Some book I have about WWII said that because Germany was pretty much done and by the time they would have been deployed to England the B-17 was already operating efficiently it was decided to just keep them in the Pacific. They could not have been deployed before summer 1944.

1 of my Grandfathers was a B29 crew member. He said the Japanese were just plan crazy. How he described them I would liken them to today's terrorist.

My other Grandfather was on the ground in France and Germany.

It's something I remember reading years ago.
The only thing was the range the B29s had made them great for use in the Pacific.
