Classic Firearms got in several crates of pre and Vietnam era Chinese SKS rifles and they made a video showing them opening the crates, according to the video the rifles were stored on a neutral country for a number of years which is why they were allowed to be imported, also they have a good number of rifles with milled trigger groups.

I’ve been wanting to pick up another SKS for a while but other guns always seem to over ride that want, I doubt I’ll pick one of these up because I just can’t see paying $400 for one, but I did dig the video and thought it would be fitting here rather than the “hot deals” section because while cool, not exactly a deal.

EDIT: you need to manually change the video quality to 720p, for some reason the link defaulted to the lowest setting and it looks like crap until you change it.

I’ll start with the “back in the day” stories we all have and mourn. My dad has an SKS he bought sometime in the 90s I’d guess for like $79 bucks. Guy threw in a couple a hundred rounds of ammo for a bit more. Thing looks immaculate. Only thing we had to do was add a bayonet after the fact because they didn’t have them.

I too have wanted my own SKS, mainly because I do like how accurate and shootable they are. About the perfect “woods gun” in some ways. But...just as I can’t see spending >$300 on a Mosin, I can’t see spending >$400 on an SKS.

Still, I love the unboxing videos for some reason. Fascinating to me seeing stuff opened after so many years.

I've owned Russian, Chinese, and both editions of the Yugo SKS. I never hang onto them for very long.

The $69 dollar days were fun!

And Ben was the major source then..he'd have crates stacked at gun shows, the smell was unforgettable. still don't really regret not buying one, just did not want to add 762x39 to ammo needs.

They may have had to put them in new crates to comply with an import restriction on native wood crates full of exotic insects.

Saw an add on Classic's site that the Chinese SKS's are on sale..... for $349! I haven't purchases an SKS in awhile. In fact, I believe the last one I purchased was an Albanian from another forum member for about $135! They are neat rifles (my kids have killed several deer with a Romanian one). However, it is hard for me to get excited over a $350 SKS. The last AR that I bought was less money (to build)! Your mileage may vary...

It truly is a weird world In which we live where 350 for an SKS is actually a pretty decent deal.
