My mother-in-law would have qualified to collect this $120o a month for about a year had we known about it before she died last year.

Thank you for the post. I did some research real quick and found this sight. https://www.va.gov/pension/aid-attendance-housebound/

I have printed out some stuff for my wife's info and also sent the URL to my kids, so they are aware of this.

Thanks again for the great info. Could of used this for my mother, but was not aware of it.

I learned about this when we thought we were going to have to find assisted living for my father. The only catch is you have to foot the bills until the service picks it up which may take a while.

I just talked to American Veterans Aid and learned some more. If the person filing the claim has any money or assets it's factored into the equation. It just disqualified my mom, and would have disqualified my MIL. It's need based.

I will have to talk to our lawyer that is drawing up our living trust. Since everything we own will be in the trust (exception being a vehicle) we will have to see how the asset thing plays out.

I looked into that and don't you have to have the trust for over like five years or something?

Thank you for the information!

Yes I believe there is a time limit. Not sure what it is. but hopefully will not need the benefit before that. Know we will one day just hopefully not in the very near future. The time thing is why we are doing it all now.

This from the VA website "Veterans and survivors who are eligible for a VA pension" thus I'm assuming it is for retirees, and/or those receiving disability for service connected conditions?

Va pension is for low income veterans and brings their income up to the pension threshold, which is currently 14k annually. So if you made 10k annually, your pension would be 4k.

Most opt the the service connection award once they become service connected.
