Fishing Pics ... post your most recent.

Hiked off Mt Sterling, ditched my backpack, strung up my fly rod and went to work. Unfortunately I didn't have much time. Missed a couple. Lost one at the net. And landed this guy. Water was high and clear so fishing was tough. Mainly just wanted to fish Big Creek a bit while I was there. I will likely be back.

Forgot to get pics, but landed 4 pomps, 1 red, and 2 spanish mackerel from the beach one day last week. Going back next week, want to try smoking some fish for a change.

Friday afternoon on the pier was a feeding frenzy for some black tip sharks. Every fish that was tossed back was quickly gobbled up as soon as it hit the water. We fed them a bunch of blues and whiting and it was a blast. Saturday there were a few folks that would take some of the smaller fish so the sharks didn’t get as many easy meals.

After a shit week of all my trucks breaking I cut out at 4 and did some fishing. Nothing of size all caught on 5” Yum Dinger Senkos in Morning Dawn color(favorite color for the past year). Couple others I didn’t get pics of, couple missed hooksets. Not a bad 2 hour trip. They are staged up on ledges here for sure. Sitting deep, going shallow to eat, then right back.

Welp, you wouldn’t of gone hungry...

Heading to the dreary, rainy north tomorrow. Hope to get out a handful of times in the next week for some smallmouth fishing. Lake Ontario is out as there are no wake zones and high water/flooding in most places. Hope to hit a Finger Lake or two and my old standby’s of the Oneida Lake and River. Lots of largemouth up to 5 lbs or so and smallies in the same range. Just hoping for breaks in the storms and rain. Damn I hate high muddy water. Ant advice @Tailhunter ?

Vibration and pushing water will be key. Bait fish will hide in the flooded grass areas and predators will stage up on the edges to ambush.

High muddy water. Cold, tough. Warm, not to bad.
Big bladed spinnerbaits.
Big jigs pitched to visible cover.
Wide wobble cranks.
Usually rising water brings fish shallow.
Darker colors.

Hard to be sure without a true visual.

If the rain won’t kill my phone I’ll try to post pics next week.

Best thing so far is vanilla extract, 1000 times better than off. Coupled with a thermacell it made it pretty pleasant.

You put it on the thermacell wafer?

My wife would think I was having an affair with Betty Crocker if I came home smelling like vanilla extract and fish.

I'll have to give vanilla a try, skeeters love me for some reason. Hopefully I'll have some good pics next week after my beach trip. We've got two trips booked already plus surf/pier fishing. I was going to take my little boat but decided not to this year. And @BurnedOutGeek get that boy a SOT kayak, I've got a Jackson Big Rig on a trailer I can be persuaded to part with.

Still too much algae to surf fish, but did put hands on a flying gurnard today, have never before seen one in the shallows.

Of course didn’t have my phone, but here is what they look like. Some folks eat them, I never have.

Hope to post pics of reds in the next day or two.

Stren Hi-Vis Gold ?
Catch anything ??

I could use a good night of Catfishing....
Power Pro Braid with a 20lb mono leader. I only stayed for about an hour. Going out on the big boat tomorrow. Little Red Snapper and if I’m lucky we’ll run into a school of Mahi.

Went to lake brandt yesterday morning for a bit. Nothing huge but caught a few small bass. See topwater hits in lily pads sure is exciting

Beetlespin for the win !

Yeah, I didn't have time to deal with stringing the fly rod and all that so grabbed the spinning rod instead. I should have grabbed the 1/64 oz ones. I got a lot of short strikes from the smaller ones. I'll be fixing that issue soon enough. I figure when the girls start fishing more I would rather them catch a lot of smaller fish than miss a lot.
