Caught this on Fox News Sunday this morning. A former Marine named Tim Day founded an organization of volunteer buglers to play Taps at veteran's funerals. Since all the government can provide, apparently, is a CD to be played.

Fifty some years ago I participated in many veteran funerals as an honor guard member out of Lejeune. If you have never attended a veteran's funeral and heard Taps played and seen the reaction of the attendees let me tell you it is something that will stay with you forever.

You can read about the organization here............ https://www.buglesacrossamerica.org/

The video of the Fox segment is here........ https://video.foxnews.com/v/6041256111001/#sp=show-clips

If you feel, as I do, that a vet deserves something more than a crappy CD of Taps at his funeral you might be inclined to donate to help this former Marine keep this going.

I was planning on sending him a check today but decided to spread the word first and see what happened.

If you do donate please post up the amount in this thread. Next Sunday (June 2nd) I'll total up the posted amounts and match them up to $500 and do it in the name of CFF.

According to the story on Fox News, what donations this guy gets from foundations and ordinary folks still leaves him out of pocket to the tune of several thousand dollars a year.

Let's give him a hand.

@notso556
Thank you for the leadership. I made a $100 donation.

@12151791

That's one hell of a start. Thank you.
No problem, my contribution is insignificant compared to the men that travel and donate their time at funerals - I’ve been to two funerals that a member from Bugles Across America showed up to sound taps and it breaks my heart.

And, by the way my name just got picked out of a hat as a winner in the CFF Memorial Day giveaway so karma payback was quick. Once you sign up as a supporting member you will be able to participate in the giveaways sponsored by CFF and supporting vendors.

@Chdamn's Wife

Thank you, I'm sure Mr. Day will appreciate whatever anyone can give.

Gotta say my wife raised her eyebrows some when I told her I committed to go up to $500 of my play / gun money on this if y'all did but it is near and dear to my heart. And I don't shoot three quarters of the guns I have now so..................

I figure this is like a CFF go fund me thing. And it will be interesting to see where it goes.

I read some years ago that taps is played via some media other than bugler to insure that it would be played properly because in the past buglers were so emotional that they messed it up.
There is a video on YouTube where the bugler is overcome with emotion at Ronald Reagan's funeral that the bugler performed not to standard.

Bump for last chance.

Tomorrow I total up CFF member donations and double that amount.

We're at $110 ($220) now.

Give the cost of a case of beer.

It's for live Taps at veterans' funerals. A good thing.

Thank you for your contribution. Sounding taps at a veteran funeral is an honorable sendoff.
