Not a bad day on the river

so today we decided to float down the Yadkin River from Kerr Scott. We wound up at Smoot Park.

5 total. 3 brim, 1 large mouth, 1 Brooke?

I done about the same today on the deep river. Beats the crap out of working!!

Wish I could have been on the river today! Or any day as far as that goes. I just got an inflatable pontoon boat. Switching from a kayak. Getting older and have bad knees, don't get in and out of a kayak that gracefully anymore lol. Been wanting to hit the New or French Broad Rivers for some smallies!

I’ve found being in the kayak is my relaxation on my days off and my pregame for work

That was a Brown Trout. Nice day of it!

Yeah, that's a brown. He's just a little out of place, but some of them do well in odd places.

That Brown will get huge living in that slow deep water, eating everything that he can get in his mouth.

Thanks gents. I also found out it was a small mouth and not a large mouth also lol.

But they stock a few streams (once a year) that feeds in to the Yadkin. Actually they are doing that tomorrow.

I thought about keeping him and having trout last night. But I figured I’d let him get bigger and catch him another day

I am paddling this weekend, leaving from Buckhorn dam and heading to wildlife ramp in lillington. A little fishing and relaxing!! Hope the weather holds out for us.

I’ve been wanting to fish above the dam, just never have time. There are some big cats in the part of the river, gar and carp to. Let us know how the trip goes.

It has been my experience that a bad day on the water is better than most days on the land*. But that's just me ...

*mountains / desert / deep woods excepted

I have seen a few nice ones.
No serious fishing this weekend, I'm just going to use my ultralight stuff.
Here is a few recent yak cats from below the dam. We use motor boats above the dam but I have not fished up there in a couple of years.

That's a mighty tasty lookin' supper fixin' to happen.

If all goes well I might have a few pics tomorrow. We are probably buying some kayaks and might take the kids out to the lake after dinner.

Checking out for a couple days, yall be safe and don't start any dumpster fires while i'm on the river!
