it always surprises me when they get ahold of a suspects gun, it takes them awhile to figure out how the magazine comes out.
You see a lot of them fumbling with it trying different things to make safe.

I saw an episode of "Cops" a few years ago where an officer racked the slide then dropped the mag.

I remember Stix once saying he’s not much of a gun guy. I guess the explanation for cops that fumble with guns must be they have their service piece and do the minimum with it commensurate with keeping their jobs.

There was an episode where they seized an FN5.7 and one cop told the other, “It's just a .22”. o_O

Neighbors called about a man shooting his AR in the backyard at night, it had a red laser,
they detain him and find brass in the yard and the AR rifle but it was really an AR pistol with a vertical grip! SBR

I am incorrect, could be an AOW depending on overall length.

He was arrested for discharging rifle in residential area. He could not understand it.

Back in the late 90’s (NC CHP’s were still a newer thing) I was stopped by a Durham LEO and the dumb Barney had to “take control of the weapon”. I was carrying a Commander size 1911 and that fool had no clue how to clear it. He did manage to drop the mag but could not rack the slide ... the safety was engaged ... he’s standing on the side of the road yanking on a slide that ain’t gonna budge. It was all I could do to not laugh or call him an idiot and say flip the safety off but I figured smartass = more violations. Finally he just sat the mag and handgun down in the bed of my truck and went on with his “why I stopped you” spiel, it was over 55 in a 45 zone (he clocked me just as it dropped down to 45), but actually was nice and cut me loose with a verbal warning. He said once he pulled off I could retrieve my handgun.

Just because they carry a gun everyday doesn’t mean they know how to operate all firearms ... and a few of them on occasion I doubt can operate the one they carry very well.

So let me ask a question.

As resident experts on gun clearing, why don't you guys offer a training class for LEO's on how to render a firearm safe?

The NRA offers Instructor level certified training on this topic (i have it) so why not go do some good with your experience and make the world a safer place?

That's not a question, that's a half hearted slap down.
"As resident experts on gun clearing" << -- fully showed your intent.

Don't hold back, bring it.

My point to my post is.

Why not fix the issue each one of you clearly identified? What value does anyone bring to the table by bitching?

Here's a fix for the issue. Do like other countries do and don't give the cops a damned gun. Seriously. They are a walking threat and accident waiting to happen. The few that do get guns should have to have special licensing and many hours of training, just like the Libruls want us to be subject to.

John the ones that come here are Fairly competent with their platform but are embarrassingly inept with others. Geezer will back me up on this..we have had Several come, only two or three return. I truly think they are embarrassed for others to see just how poor their skills are. The sad part is they obviously don't care enough to get better. They would rather have a $300 pair of Oakleys or a $300 gold pen to write ticket with. I am Not exaggerating.

AR pistol with vertical grip is an AOW, not an SBR. ;)

...and then, it actually depends on OAL as to whether it’s NFA at all.

I had a convo with Larry Vickers a couple years ago, we talked about 'gun guys' specific to Delta (CAG, whatever they want to be called today). He said a lot of them, aren't. They learn how to use the tools (i.e., guns) of Delta, and that's it. They couldn't care less about shooting multiple guns, ballistics, different ammo, etc. I imagine cops are the same way.

Regarding Live PD, last night was the first time I saw it (or Live Rescue). My kids love those shows. It makes me miss it less.

My post above was merely an observation involving a single officer I thought I would share. I even paused and replayed it on my DVR a few times and showed my wife.

I can assure anyone that I don't consider myself an "expert" on handguns or firearms in general.

John, buddy, you seem to be coming down really hard on the membership here as of late. These snide comments and such aren't really something I expected out of you. I am just now seeing this today, but this is twice in a short period that you have basically stuck up your nose at the community. Considering a part of your career is, or at least was, trying to convince people that read pages like this to come train with you, it seems like really crappy advertising to belittle possible customers.

The fact of the matter is, this is a discussion forum. It just so happens to center around firearms and their usage. This isn't necessarily an advocacy or outreach group. This thread is no different than people pointing out how Rambo can manage to fire 300 rounds from a 100 round belt, or a cowboy can manage 18 shots from a 6 shooter without reloading. We don't start an advocacy outreach to try to train entertainers, because those things already exist. Its up to the entertainment industry to use them. Just as there are already groups designed, both internally and externally, to go into law enforcement agencies and train their employees on proper firearms handling.

Come on brother, you are either going through a really weird spell, or you have decided CFF is full of people you really don't respect or care for. If that's the case, why hang around bro?

Wait, some of you have seen this TV behavior firsthand but didn't do anything in response?

I think it was Live PD New Mexico, the deputy looked like Butter Bean. He got mad after finding a Draco AK in this car and was berating the occupants because they “had a MACHINE GUN”. It was hilariously sad.

But I should drive to NM and tell him what he said 2 years ago was wrong. See ya in a week

Better put than what I was thinking.
