Background:
I need to mount a TV mount to the outside of my camper. Mount has 1.5" strip that can accommodate a strip double-sided tape almost 4" long. I want to use tape because the camper is fiberglass with sytrofoam behind it and just not digging the idea of drilling a mounting hole. TV is 27" flat screen; don't know the weight; not super light and not super heavy.

So far:
I've used 3M tape and it worked well until a couple weekends ago. I don't recall the specifics of the tape but it was super-ultra-forever tape or something like that. It didn't work so well at the beach when temps hit 95+ combined with the heat the TV emitted. Started to release so I reapplied. That one also released within an hour. Proper surface prep of both surfaces was observed.

Conclusion:
I need some strong ass tape that won't release with temp variations. I know there are 3M high temp options but there's also that Gorilla stuff and lots more. Looking for testimonials/recommendations please.

Any reason you must use tape vs an adhesive compound?

I would go check our ProjectFarm on YouTube. He does some really cool “garage science” testing everything you find around your shop including adhesives and tapes.

I’d look to something like E6000 or the stuff @rdinatal posted.

Actually, no...my brain jumped to tape and stayed there. Adhesive sealant 'seemed' weaker (in my unknowing brain) but you guys are know more about this than I do so I'll give the adhesive a go.

This is one way, $180, ouch.

Get one of these dual suction tile lifters and hang the TV off the handle $24 for the pair.

Use 3m trim tape. Used on cars and it is nearly forever.

The grey tape with the red plastic cover.
Yes! I’ve torn towels on emblems while drying off cars at the body shop way back when.

Didn’t think of that stuff, but agree it would be a great tape for this purpose and could be easier to clean up than some adhesives. Great idea!

I'm pretty sure this is the tape I used. It's supposed to be some of the strongest they make and it got too gooey with heat. Left long enough it would have failed with the TV weight. I only noticed now that it has a 20 lb limit. It was tape I already had and thought for sure it would have held more. I can't imagine trim tape would be stronger. According to 3M's site this is on the strongest spectrum. I think I'm relegated to the epoxy solutions (or the $180 suction cup!).

A telivision for some of 3m double sided tape is nothing. Even with severe heat. Just have to research the right tape. If the can put planes and buses together with it then a TV is nothing. I visited there corporate showroom many years ago for a telecommunications company I worked at. Found the right guy with the right solution. Too many types and grades of 3M. Kind of like grades of paint are different.
