Yesterday I drove across the RT73 bridge by the LKN dam. There was 100+ people parked in the viewing area looking. The traffic was slow so I glanced left, the spillways were open and in full use. The island just below the dam was under with only the tree tops visible. Today I was going to complete some work on a boat in Mt. Island Lake just below LKN. Ah, not going to do that tonight!

They have been open like that since Saturday about 12. Not spilling like they were yesterday but were running pretty good

Rhodhiss was overtopped by a foot or two. But it's designed to deal with that. Oxford spillways were open and it was scarily close to the bottom of HWY 16 bridge in on video I saw.

Johns River at Corpington Bridge was 12 ft over flood stage last night. Water was about 2 over guard rail. About 1 more foot and it would have crossed the road and flooded my land. Folk on the river side of the road can find there stuff in lake Rhodhiss...

This was at the Hwy 16 bridge over Mountain Island Lake this morning. Aparrently the water rose enough to float the docks over their posts.

"When the water level on #LKN / Lake Norman is dropped by 1 inch, in general, the water level on #MIL / Mountain Island Lake rises by around 1 foot. The result is watercraft and docks - anything not secured - comes loose and heads downstream. The only obstacle preventing these boats and docks from going over the dam for MIL is the NC 16 / Rozelles Ferry Bridge going over MIL - a wide spot in the Catawba River."

I came across the bridge yesterday about 11:00 and you could feel the bridge vibrating! They closed it for a while after that.

So, I have 2 free days and was really looking forward to some fishing. Just for giggles I checked the Linville River water gauges. Normal flow last week around 50 CFPS. Peak this weekend, 7000 CFPS and dropping. Not fast enough to fish anywhere tomorrow though.

I claim salvage rights on all these boats.

Got a link to the video?

Best I can find of this one is on FB.

This is older, but it all looks the same. I think it might have been more water this time, the arches on the dam were covered more in one of the vids I saw this week.

I meant the scarily close to bridge at Oxford dam. That bridge location interests me because it seems like the scour should be terrible below the dam like that.

Lets try this.

This is normal.

That is incredible. I have been over that bridge many times and never seen the water that high before.

My first thought when I saw that was "Glad I'm not running Wilkesboro today."
