has anyone ever been prosecuted for failing to submit a 5320.20 when traveling with an SBR?

Asking for a friend of course....said friend will be driving from NC to PA (via VA, WV) and would like to maybe transport a 9mm SBR w/can

Hmmm.
Good question.

I wouldn’t give the ATFASSHOLES the ammo.
You can do them online and they only take about a week or two to receive back

No cost to file the form and email it to them. Mailed back to me approved in less then five days.
I'm good to bring my Glock SBR Roni to Battery Oaks until 12/31/19.

Really? Got a link?
Instructions on the form.

It’s email, not a form you submit online.

For mine, I don’t deal with paper in order to submit. I have an electronic signature already added to my form. I “print to PDF” instead of a paper copy. Attach that file to an email, and send it in. I do this every fall for the following year. Only takes a couple minutes.

And last year I got back 10 different envelopes with paper copies of the approved forms. I file for 10 states, and for whatever reason they split the one PDF up that way. I’ve seen others report the same thing. When I used to send paper forms in together in one envelope, they’d come back in one...or something split in two. But never 10.

You can also do it ^that^ way if you don’t have an option to “print to PDF”, or a way to do a digital signature.

...but I’d reverse the first two steps. ;)

I get that.

I misunderstood the statement thinking they may have gotten somewhat up to date. Definitely silly of me to think such a thing.

Yeah, it should be online and instant.

All you’d need:
1. Name on form matches database by serial number
2. “To” address to allow type of firearm listed

That’s it. Automatic approval if those two conditions are met. :D

My friend went ahead and submitted for PA. Said NFA owning miscreant had already submitted for the other states he normally travels to, the PA trip is unexpected.

Well, at least we know they’re paying attention. I put my name instead of the Trust name on the form. Stupid laws.

Doh! o_O

Just take it as a 9mm pistol with a can. No approval needed.

Not as easily done as said. I don’t care to move the Colt mag insert, and my proven buffer/spring combo works with the proprietary PDW stock’s tube so I can’t just toss it on a Mil-spec length tube.

Or, just file it again today, and depending how soon the trip is enclose a cover sheet saying you screwed up are asking for an expedite if possible.

He's got the great big red DISAPPROVED right there.

That's like when I got a ticket for doing a burnout on Main St. in Daytona during bikeweek. My wife got all pissed and my buddies came to my rescue and enthusiastically exclaimed that ticket is not a disgrace but rather a badge of honor.

Tim: It looks to me, with limited available information you provided. That they disapproved it because you have it registered in a Trust and applied for the form 20 as an individual.
A quick call to the NFA Branch (304)616-4500. Ask to speak to the examiner whose name is on the form...should be able to clear it up quickly.
Have a safe trip: Phil

Limited available info?

It’s literally the exact sentence he typed when he posted the pics. See?:

I put my name instead of the Trust name on the form.
And the examiner wrote “weapons registered to trust” right under the Disapproved stamp. :p
