2nd Annual Battery Oaks Fall Meet and Greet

Battery Oaks is revolver paradise.... Billy has some extremely nice examples of various "classic" wheelgun variations.

Last Saturday evening, Billy spent some time sharing his wheelgun knowledge with me. I am amazed at the quality of some of the pieces he has, especially considering several were made with manufacturing technology from 60-100 years ago..!
@KnotRight made a suggestion last week that we have a "revolver only"day at Battery Oaks. I think it's a great idea.

It sure is great to see this much interest and to see people already making commitments to be here in October. We had a great time last year and this year will be bigger and better. Billy has already come up with a new shooting competition for this year. Similar to last year, only 5 rounds required, and any centerfire handgun is appropriate (n0 shotshells). We hope that you'll use your daily carry gun but that's up to you.

We are looking forward to it down here and hope you all come.

Putting this out here early so you can make plans to attend this year. If you came last year, you know that you want to come back. If you were not here last year, you read the stories and saw the pictures. You know that you want to be a part of this one.

The date is Saturday October 19, 2019. Yeah, it's a long way off but will be here before you know it.

Battery Oaks Range
2055 Mikes Road
Conway, SC 29526

Thank you for the advance notice. It's a long way off but I sure would like to attend. If you haven't sold that beautiful motorcycle I'd be willing to take it for a drive just to keep things loose and warmed up on it haha

You have plenty of time to make it happen.

And, I hope that motorcycle is just a memory by then. :)

Just put it on the calendar. Hoping to get Barbara to make the trip this time. The first trip was too much up and back in the same day but the last trip was OK. This time, I am hoping to get a hotel room in MB or Polly's Island.

Yes I would love to see people showing wheel guns but I do not have a holster except for the 2" guns.

Then, we would have to have a SA revolver day and then a DA revolver day. Both would be a lot of fun.

Just not the ideal time of year for me to get away for a long shooting weekend. I am normally traveling that time of year with my wife for our anniversary but when the time comes I will try to make it.

Wives are welcome, too.

I think it's just the 19th, not the whole weekend, and bring the wife, she'll have fun too!

I have to see what we have planned for that week. Last year I missed it because we were in France. I am not sure where we are going this year.

@BatteryOaksBilly I will be in a power wheelchair, will there be any problems for me getting around? It can fit through 30"-33" wide doors.

Pard, everywhere you go will probably be grass. Uneven, holes, not the best for you. We will have a PorTaPotty for all to use and ALL the activities will be outside. You are absolutely welcome to come and I am sure everybody will help make it work for you. Just want you to understand what problems come with the territory.

@BU2scwMJL -- Builder, I will be there, God willing and the creek don't rise. I will make it my personal mission to ensure that you get where you're going with minimal fuss and bother, to the extent that I "Can Do" so. We'll have a blast! (Seabees and their sons stick together!)

Great minds....I just sent a message describing the terrain and offering to help if needed. My much-loved aunt was in a wheelchair, so I can see the need for watching/scouting out the ground. I have numb feet, so I watch where I put them...lol. He'll be fine and have fun!

@Geezer and @BatteryOaksBilly maybe it would be a good idea to make a thread (maybe even a sticky one) -- gathered all in one place -- for people to list

(a) what they would like to choot if anyone can bring it and
(b) what each of us can bring if anyone wants to choot it?

What say you?

I might be able to dig up an older all metal S&W semi-auto or two. ;)
I wish I could dig up my old Colt Combat Commander. Sadly, I succumbed to the evils of placating a family member and sold it to him for a song.

That's fine with me. Just take into account Saturday will be centered around the Comp. Giving out prizes and getting folks fed. Friday or Sunday afternoon might be better.
You bring it, there will be someone to make the area safe and we all will have big fun.

Because I did not realize that ^^^ or I wouldn't have made the suggestion
Maybe for those of us who have never attended, would you fill us in on just what officially takes place?
(But I don' wanna know about no unofficial shenanigans until they're upon me!)

Saturday Morning..Breakfast at 8 AM [Thanks to CFFr Garvin]
Saturday 10 AM start the competition [This is a single stage repeated til elimination]
Saturday 1 PM Dinner hosted and provided by Many CFFrs.
Saturday 2PM finish the match and give out prizes...
Saturday No Later than 4PM open range.
There may be 50 BMG shooting again this year. Many variables involved.
Saturday as things wind down there will be general visiting, conversating, glad handing and making of memories.
Saturday evening..the faithful will join in the Inner Sactum Sanctorium for stories by Curt [Gunbelt] and relive the days activities.

This crusty, broken paratrooper just happens to have that weekend 'in the books' for time off from work. Details on the competition? How loudly will I be heckled for bringin' a single action .41Mag? I ain't no kinda pistolero, but I'm always down for a good time.

Very much looking forward to both seeing old friends again & makin' the acquaintance of some new ones.

You will not be heckled for your firearm. We are friendly to all firearms. You may get heckled for something else, not your firearm.
The competition will be similar to last year, 5 rounds of centerfire (no shotshells) on 5 targets. You must have a hit on each target and you will be recorded with a timer. The top 5 shooters will advance to the final round and 5 more rounds on 5 more targets.
We always hope that people will use their daily carry gun but you shoot whatever you want.

How many 15 round magazines are allowed at this 5 targets... Asking for @Jeppo

Sorry Folks...this year this is Mandatory. Only you and the shooting Gods will know if you don't really carry a 6 inch, 20 shot, compensated, Crunchinticker. The starting position this year will be seated at a table with your blaster concealed on your person.
Concealed means....hands straight up fully extended, 360 degree turn around, I see nothing...you are ready to be seated.

As many magazines as you want but everyone will only get 5 shots, even @Jeppo . Everyone will get a chance to go through a bunch of ammo at other times during the day.

I'm going to try and make it to this one, but as it is the day after my daughter's birthday, I'm unsure when we're planning on celebrating with the rest of the family. She's the first grandchild on both family's sides, so she they make a huge deal over her.
