Did You Go Shooting Today

Yep. With this dude. Another beautiful and fun day @Panteao Sportsman's Club.

While he has been shooting with me quite a bit over the last two years I finally attached the Spectre II suppressor to his Walther PPQ M2 Tactical .22LR pistol now that he is big enough to hold it and shoot it. My boy plowed through 250 rounds and was banging steel at 25 yards easily.

So proud. He is very safe and follows ALL the gun safety rules, has a blast shooting, and was begging to go back next week to shoot again. This is going to be a fun summer!

Where'd you get that hostage target?

Where'd you get that hostage target?

Man I WISH that was my range!

I am a member of Panteao Sportsman's Club (a forum Sponsor) here in the Columbia, SC area. Be more than happy to ask the owner for you next week when I am there.

Yep for the second time this week! @Jeppo , @BigWaylon , @BigWaylonJr & myself met at PHA this morning for some recoil therapy. Here's me running my 12.5" AR with frangible ammo on steel at about 30 yds. Really enjoying this frangible ammo!

Thanks to both of you for hosting me. :D

Headed to the range today to shoot some of those Appleseed targets and try the 6.5 CM with the ballistic turret.
I was shooting a Ruger 1022 from a rest (I know it is not suppose to be done that way but I have not got a sling yet) at 30 yards. All hits were good. Then headed to the 500 yard range. The 6.5 was shooting between .5 and .75 MOA before putting the ballistic turrets on. I could dial it out to 525 yards with the OEM turrets with no problem. I started out with the 300 yard steel and did not see any impact at all. Grass was about 1.5 feet tall. Played around on both sides at 300 yards and nothing. A guy that was leaving said that he would spot for me and to shot the 200 yard steel. 4 shots in a row hit with in 2 inches of each other but about 4 feet low. Dialed the turret to 300 yards and the round struck the same spot. Decided that I would shoot at the top of the bar holding the steel (maybe 2 feet above the plate) and it brought the shoots up 2 feet. Then took my last 3 rounds at 4 feet above the target and all struck the steel.
Called Sig and spoke to the guy that cuts the turrets and he said to put the OEM turret back on and re-zero. That is where I am now and the guy from Sig is re-cutting another turret for me.

Yep. Spent a while working on my sight picture and tweaking my sight-in on my PSA 7.62x51 for PBR to 250 yards. I need to do some distance shooting with this rifle to see how well it / I can do. (Maybe in October if not before?) :)

What great weather for a morning at H2O. Took my Taurus PT111, my Shield, the Ruger P95 which I hadn't shot in forever, the SA 1911 and my new Desert Eagle 1911. Started out at 15 yds and was really all over the place but all in target. Decided to just move up to 5-10 yds and work on my grip and trigger....much more accurate and better groupings. I need a lot of practice though.

Ran the dot torture pistol drill a half dozen times, then practiced reloads while shooting at the 100 yard steel.

That must have been you. I was at the rifle range shooting at steel with a 1911

Wish I had known.....would have let you try a few of mine. Will know next time. Also, some nice shooting from what I saw.
We’ve got a pistol match there tomorrow. Register at 8 shoot at 9

Yes, matter of fact I did. As was mentioned earlier, my son and I met up with @Jeppo and @Zbizzle911 at PHA this morning.

75° and not a cloud in sight. What a day to be at the range.

First up was to shoot the AR I walked my son through building. I took some pics along the way of that process and it’s posted here if you missed it: https://www.carolinafirearmsforum.c...nd-stripped-lower-to-functioning-ar-15.44122/

My son and I took one bay to work on that one while the other two started in the bay next door. I pulled the upper off the lower, and boresighted to get the red dot lined up. Not too bad...these were the first three shot (one by him, two by me) from ~35yds:

6FBD0CB0-08E1-484C-82D7-237F9C391586.jpeg

Shot 10 shots or so unsuppressed just to confirm there were any stability issues, then attached the Omega. Fairly quick adjustment to get the holes in the red after silencer was attached.

While that was going on, I could hear the other two shooting. I know there was some 9mm, .38 and 5.56. I’d also left my Maxim on their shooting table and I think Zbiz ran a mag through it. I’d warned them at some point I’d bring out the obnoxious rifle. So out came the 7.5” 5.56 SBR with a riot brake (Mas Defense). It didn’t take but a couple shots before they came around the corner to see what was going on.

There’s no point in posting a video. The “fun” part of shooting it is not the noise or fireball. It’s the blast of gas and unburnt powder hitting your hands and face, and the concussion that rattles your teeth. And while all that is going on, there’s basically zero recoil. Zbiz said it almost felt like ok the first shot the brake pulled the rifle away from his shoulder instead of the blast pushing it into his shoulder.

The only other shooting I did at that time was ran a mag through the suppressed 4.5” 15-22...otherwise known as the Giggle Stick. Jeppo had never seen it before, so I shot one mag just so he’d see how it did. He has a standard 15-22, but I think he said he hadn’t shot it, yet.

After that I packed our stuff up and moved into their bay. My son (Lucas) got a chance to shoot Jeppo’s NCSHP S&W 66-1. Rang steel at ~35yds with it. Also shot some of Zbiz’s Glock 45 and 12.5” 5.56 AR pistol and was easily ringing the steel with both. Some of that was going on while I was packing up next door, so video was shared. I spliced three of them together and end up with this:

Somewhere in the middle of all that I shot a mag through Zbiz’s G45, a cylinder full of Jep’s 66-1, and a mag through my Maxim.

Once that shooting was over we got lucky and the guy finally left the bay we wanted. It’s the only one of the open bays that actually allows you to shoot 50yds...and that’s the distance we needed for the rimfire challenge.

Man, that was a disaster. In case you don’t follow those, here’s the current thread: https://www.carolinafirearmsforum.c...-july-50-yard-22lr-benchrest-challenge.44826/

First step is to shoot a single stripe on the page. Yeah, shoot a stripe that <.1” wide at 50 yards. After I took a couple warm up shots to make sure it was still zeroed, low and behold my first shot on target was here:

F7B25C58-27BC-4B0E-A23D-A7E1212D0BA3.jpeg

Don’t be too impressed...3 of the next five missed the other parts of the target by and inch or more. The wind was pretty bad, and I’m still not convinced the CCI SV is the right ammo for my CZ455.

After that...the four of us headed to BBQ Joe’s to meet up with a table full of CFF members. Yum! https://www.carolinafirearmsforum.com/index.php?threads/next-bbq-joes-meetup.44750/

Today was pistol day...6 pistols, 4 different calibers! Mainly just function testing as I didn’t have a ton of time. Beautiful day as well!

Pictured L to R...Galil Ace 7.62X39 (I now call it the fireball!), PSA AK-V 9mm (Wow, what fun!), .300BO PSA upper with Aero lower, 5.56 frankenpistol with Aero lower, CZ-P10 9mm and the big daddy...Rock Island double stack 10mm (Big Bang!).

Only 1 target today...20 yards, all standing and freehand. As I said, mainly just function testing the guns and the red dots and lots of smiling!

Yes. Went to the club and sighted in my MAS 45 .22 that I put a scope on via a used B Square mount procured from Ebay. I then invited a new shooter to shoot a couple of my center fire rifles. Later I moved on to one of the pistol pits and fired my BHP MkIII, a FEG HP with a Ciener .22 kit, and a Rock Island PI 9mm Government model. I ended the fun time with 3 cycles of 5 rounds each of .30-30 fired at a reduced size silhouette target from about 30 yds as fast as I could work the action and fire. I had put the carbine for sale here on the forum but after having it out today for the first time in about 5 years I decided to hang on to it.

I did get out today.

Shot "the Wizard" first time ever, first thing, with my Shield 9 from concealment, 2.2/2.3 secs per string, last headshot was low left outside the circle still in the headbox, second body shot was 1/2" outside the perf, also left. I imagine if I drew from concealment more than once a year, and shot my Shield more than a mag quarterly it'd be a lot easier.

Ran some H&G68s thru the 1911 I built, found a promising load of 3.7gr CleanShot 10rnds 2 3/4" at 20yds, guessing a better shooter would've had one ragged hole.

Then some runs with the CO gun of "Practical Accuracy" still fighting that low left, and "Accelerator" which went pretty well, though obviously I need to get back to dryfire and practicing reloads. Set up a mini stage and played with that a while. Called a few more shots than usual, Charlies were maybe 15-20%, and only one Delta all day, not terrible.

Yep. Took the oldest daughter and my wife to FLD for some family time. Started them off with the M&P22 since it has been several months since they last shot. Then they moved to the G17, FN 509 and M&P 9 Pro. Daughter has the most time behind the M&P but she shot fist sized groups at 10 yds with the 17, so she and my youngest may have to have a cage match to see who gets to claim it.

Was going to let them try the 320 Compact and Full size with the X series grip modules and Apex triggers but had grabbed the gen 1 mags that don’t work in the X series frames. Ugh

Last shooter Just left. What a wonderful day. Thanks to Geezer, Garvin, Cousin Jerry, Charlie, and Gunbelt. We ate, we shot, we worked on stuff,we ate some more. The Wizard killed all today. I shot him with a DAO revolver and went over .2 on the last target. Another Bonus Day!!!!!

Yessir!

Went to ENC in Goldsboro. Unloaded .380, 9mm, 45, and 22s though a bunch of guns. Had a good time and mentored some first time shooters. It was a good day.

It would have been a BETTER day if I had not left my stamp album at the range

Made a quick trip to the range yesterday. I had some new 460 S&W loads to try out (300 grain Speer Deep Curls). At 25 yards, they hit about 6” higher than the 200 grain bullets I have been shooting. Then I got out my Win 94 so I could check the zero on the new Marbles sight I installed. About 2 clicks each on elevation and windage was all it needed. It also reduced my group size by about half.

Picture of your MAS 45? I used to have one, great Mauser 98 training rifle. Back on my FOB today and did some shooting with the M4A1 and G19.

Yes!!
I got an adjustable rear sight put on the g19 today, and now begins the messing about, getting it right for me and my oddball eyes.

Shot 150 rounds of 9mm, 50 of .45 and 50 of .380.

Drew "IDPA circles" on the backs of some targets, and did really well with the .45 at various distances, shooting about as fast as I would in a match. (Which in my world is pretty slow.) Nice gun, it's a 1911, what else can I say. Didn't do as well with the Glock on those circles, but I'm not giving up!

It was nice to see 2 other women in there shooting! Not a lot of women shooters there normally....

HARD rain this morning and sun shining Bright=HUMIDITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lock 'em Down Brown just left. We had a grand time and he will be a valuable asset. He got to witness the FIRST malfunction with the SCCY!! 1,200+ rounds in, Never been cleaned, failure to extract. Took it in and cleaned it and back on the range....Clang,Clang,Clang,Clang, X 25. Back up and running.

Man, I'm running that Tuarus G2 Mellinium that I have like I hate it, and so far, it's been great, even with the Sig mag. No failures so far, and it's accurate as I can be.

Had to take the boat in for a tune-up which is about 10 miles right past the gun range. So I grabbed the pistol 300 BO and the new Combat Arms 7.5" 223. Ran 20 rounds through the 300 to get the sight fixed at 50 yards then changed to the 7.5 Upper. This is a new upper that has never been shot. So loaded one round in the magazine to see if it had the proper gas port. The first round did not chamber all the way. Took the upper off to get the round out. Loaded another one and let the bolt cycle with no resistance. No problem with the bolt locking back so loaded 10 rounds in the magazine they run the complete mag. Gave the gun to a friend to shot and had the same problem with the first round. After taking the upper off and loaded the first round before giving the gun to my friend, it ran the whole mag.

I am thinking that when I put the forward assist pin in, I might have bent it some how. Stopped by the gunsmith to get an other roll pin to install which he did. hope that was the problem. BTW, I never cleaned the upper before shooting it. Any ideas?

1200 rounds between cleanings? Might be a gun for @Millie to consider.

She’d only have to clean it once or twice a week. ;)
