I decided to have about 8 acres fenced in (2 acres pasture and 6 acres woods) for my two goats. I'll get more goats and maybe a small horse next.

Anyway, I wanted to tell y'all about my fence guy. He is driving the wood posts into the ground. Then the whole fence will get 2x4 woven wire, 5 feet tall. Then the two acres of pasture are getting three board added over the wire.

I had about 4 local fence companies come give me a quote. All of the quotes were between $20k and $25k. I simply could not afford that, so I kept shopping around, and this guy out of Kentucky said he could do the job for $9500 total and finish in less than 2 days.

Well, today, he drove up with a crew and two semi trucks loaded up with tractors, BIG wooden posts, and 1900 feet of woven wire.

If any of you guys need a fence built DM me and I'll give you his company name and cell number. He's doing a great job so far. I'll add more pics when the job is done.

Update! They are finished. They started at 4pm on Thursday. They drove away at 4pm today (Saturday). Two days work to run 1900 linear feet of fence...

Thursday, they worked from 4pm to 9pm.

Friday, they worked from 8am to 10:30pm (they wear wearing FREAKING head lamps y'all). I could hear the tractor pounding posts in the ground and I could see lights on foreheads in the woods as they hammered staples into the posts.

Saturday, they worked from 6:30am to 4pm.

I am beyond pleased with their work. I can't believe they did this job for less than HALF the money that local NC fence companies wanted to charge me.

They charged $10,000.00 and used 6 inch thick treated posts every 10 feet and 2x4 woven wire, when the local companies wanted to charge $24,000.00 and give me 4 inch thick treated posts every 12 feet and 2x4 welded wire.

And, these dudes were all from Kentucky, born and bred.

How’d you find ‘em?

that's labor and materials both??? if so that was a hell of a deal
Yes sir. I went to the bank and took $10,000 cash out of my savings account (and wiped it out). I gave the guy in charge $5000 when they arrived and $5000 when they drove away.

Craigslist... He advertises on CL nation wide. He lives in Kentucky, but he travels all over the country putting up fences for cash money.

But he told me he would be happy to come back and build more fences for any of my friends in NC.

Anyone can DM me and I will give you his cell number. He owns the company. You can call him, tell him what you want, and negotiate terms.

He owns the company, he was onsite managing the crew, and he worked his ass off right alongside his guys.

Just be sure to run hot wire on the inside or the goats will rub on your fence. Also, that looks like level 1 fence that will snap if you have a big goat stand on it. I could be wrong about the level because the pics are a bit blurry.

Not sure what level it is. I'll check the labels that came off the rolls tomorrow. The guy handed them to me before he left. He showed me that the labels say the wire is backed by a 30 year warranty.

Yeah - I'm not saying it's bad wire. There's just different levels to them. The 30 year on them is typical rust and defects I believe.

I can't find anything about Gaucho levels online...

But here's a pic of the label from the rolls of wire. Lemme know if this is of poor quality or not.

At the least, it must be really good since the state of California knows that it causes cancer.

That is a lot of fence. It it was my we’d have a storm tomorrow night and a tree would take out a section of it.

Glad I'm not the only one with that kind of good fortune.

Fence looks great, BTW.

I agree that electric fence is something to consider for the goats. What kind/size goats do you have?
I have some big Nubians (150+ pounds) and they were really bad on our fence until @amnesia gave me the idea to run a hot wire, based on his experience with it for the animals he has. Now the goats stay off the fence.
If you decide you need it, I can give you all the info about the polyrope and other components I used. It was not super expensive and was not too hard to install. I have about 2 wooded acres fenced.

It's not just for two goats. Monday, I'm going to the livestock auction to buy 3 or 4 lady goats.

Then it won't be long before I have 10 goats.

BROWN CHICKEN BROWN COW!
Lets hope you don’t have any coyotes in the area because, well at least you’ll still have that pretty fencing.
And it is pretty. I’d like it around my open field for some cows.

I love to trap them and skin them and stretch their hides.
I'd like to do something to kill them, but I haven't tried yet. I was looking at coyote traps online, and my wife said, "That's so mean and inhumane. Can't you buy a night vision scope and shoot them? "

I said, "Yes! That's a great idea. I'll start looking to buy one. "

She has no idea how expensive they are.

I've been down this same path. I have a dedicated 300blk sbr with suppressor for them. Including all the gear you need for night time.

I have a .300blk pistol with 10.5 inch barrel. That's the one i was going to put an NV scope on.

Did you kill many coyotes, or was it all for nothing?

Would you recommend NV or thermal scope? Any scope in particular that you like most?

Educate her about traps so she isn’t ignorant when she talks about them.
They are not “mean and inhuman”, they hold the yote like a handcuff until you arrive. With the wider jaws, that have become popular, there is less pressure. No cut skin or blood or broken bones like the anti’s like to preach.

I had the night vision ATN. It was so freaking heavy on the gun. ($750 I believe). I ended up selling it and got a PA FFP meant for 300 BLK. I added the green flashlight on top.

If I wanted to get rid of a few toys I would definitely go with a thermal scope but dropping 3k on a scope is crazy.

Even after several times calling I never saw one. I hear them at night around me but who knows how far they are. The best option for you would be to get pasture protectors that live with your goats. Either two LGDs or if you can't handle the barking you could consider rescue donkeys.

While you're running the hotwire on the inside for the goats I would run a strand on the outside to keep anything from digging domestic or wild. I would make the outside super hot as well. Looking into polyrope. You can run it by yourself with minimal tools and tighten it by hand.

As @Tailhunter mentioned most people trap them but you'll never get rid of them. Even if you manage to clear out your area a new pack will eventually move in but it will buy you time.

Some of the guys here would gladly come over and hunt them. I know they offered when I was looking at what to do for them. We ended up fencing in our whole place to mitigate issues with them.

Several people have asked me for this guy's contact info. I have replied to everyone.

Disclaimer: I found this guy online 4 months ago. That's how long it took him to come do my job. I texted him once a week and said, "Any update on ETA?" He always responded, "Maybe next week. " Then one day he called and said he was on his way. The reason this took so long for me was because i was the only job he had lined up in NC.

This guy travels a lot. Basically, he's the ring leader of a traveling circus of fences. He does a couple jobs in Kentucky, then a couple jobs in Tennessee, then a couple jobs in Alabama, then a couple in Florida, then a couple in Georgia, etc.

If you guys all contact him and tell him when you want your fence put up, he will line your jobs up in a row and do all of the NC fences back to back to back.

So, don't be discouraged if he says he's already backed up for a few weeks.

This guy, and his super low price, is definitely worth the wait.

Were the materials included in the 10k quote? If yes, it's a great deal.
One of my neighbors had a very similar fence installed on a 20 acre plot of a grass pasture. Don't know how much it cost but only one older guy did the whole job, mostly by hand. It took him about 3-4 months of daily work.

Yep. Everything was included in the price. No surprises. The man did exactly what he said he would and did a great job...

Just fyi the Op’s fencing man is working in mocksville NC for probably another week if anyone wanted to get any work done while he is in area. He said he wasnt sure when he would be headed back when I spoke to him today.
