The 6.5 Creedmoor Thread

Now just to get to the range!

This is a “jack of all trades” gun for me or I would have gone Tac A1

Ok. I have no patience. Added a VG6 Gamma 6.8 brake I had.

Good idea on the Creedmoor thread. Been shooting it since early 2008 and love the cartridge. Does really well for me in matches even with factory ammo. Just got a new Creedmoor barrel for my switch barrel set up and need to get out and shoot it soon.

I thought about it but not sure I’m ready for 1,000 yet. I’m sure the rifle is plenty capable, just don’t have the DOPE for it. You going?

If you ave a velocity then use the Hornady 4 Dof program and it will get you very close at 1000. The program is free online and also as a download for phones. I have used it in matches this year and it's been more accurate than JBM which was my go to program for years. You can save rifles and loads as favorites and you can easily move inputs.

Give it a try.

My two factory loads of 140 and 147 ELDs are 2775fps and 2705fps respectively and 8.1 and 8.4 mils to 1000.

With my handloads at 2820 for the 147 I am at 7.6 mils to 1000 and my 140 at 2850 is 7.7 mils.

Love my Creedmoor but boy you guys are technical. May have to ask you guys to dummy it down a bit lol.

Just jumped into the 6.5cm game. Was going to order the Tikka CTR but put my hands on a Savage 110 Desert Tac yesterday and couldn’t resist. It has some great features and for the price I couldn’t resist. Plus, I’ve never owned a Savage and these have some great reviews.

Going to drop my VX-5HD on it later today and hope to hit the range for a bit in the next few days.

Got to order some dies and bullets, maybe some Lapua brass. Picked up 2 boxes of Hornady ELD-X factory ammo to get me going.

What bullets are you guys liking for handloads?

I've been very happy with RL-17 and Hornady 140gr EDL-M

FWIW....my Savage went from a ~0.8-1.0MOA rifle to a legit 0.4 by swapping out the Accustock with an MDT Chassis system.

I like the sound of that. I’m a big fan of chassis and have been looking at those and the KRG. I had an X-ray on a R700 a few years ago and it was sweet.

I picked up some 4350 today. Was debating between that and some RL17. 8208 is showing high pressure at low velocities with the lighter bullets and not even recommended for 140+ (Which sucks because I have about 16lbs of it). Once I break in the barrel with the factory ammo I picked up and get some dies and bullets, I’ll start working up some loads.

I’m super excited about this cartridge.

H4350 and 140ELD or 147eld is what you seek.

Well, looks like the 140 ELD is discontinued. Placed an order for some 143 ELD-X. May also try some 147 ELD-m which is supposedly the same bullet without the hollow point under the tip.

The 140 ELDs are not discontinued. Not sure where you are looking but they are available. Also the 147 and 143 are totally different bullets.

Yeah, I see they are still available. Must have been discontinued from the online store I was looking at.

I will be following this thread. I have had a couple of 6.5 that I built. I have had great luck with the Hornady factory ammo. My rifles were wearing Satern barrels. I have another one coming as soon as I can get the barrel sent for fluting.

After putting a heavier than stock Wilson barrel on the bergara to get a longer barrel, I’ve found success with Berger 140 hybrids. Seated .02 off lands, which won’t fit a magpul ai mag, but fits my accurate mag, 42.8gr of h4350, I’ve got 2798fps average. SD of 4 and ES of 9.

Barrel only has 88 rounds down it. But this was my first group of 5, I’ll call this good to go. All out of a $165 barrel!!!

First shot was cold bore and high. 45 degrees outside and rifle has been out there an hour, so the barrel was nice and chilly.

My load that I use in my bergara.
Oal 2.919, o give is 2.290 runs right at 2800 FPS out of my 26” Wilson barrel with 42.8 gr 4350 in starline small primer brass. Cci450 primers. Single digit ES and SD
I used the same load in my ruger Hawkeye after shooting 100 rounds of factory for barrel break in, I get the same speeds and the same single digit Es/sd.
Shoots sub .5 moa in both rifles. I’m amazed the same loads works this well in 2 rifles.

I tried it in a friends custom Rem. With a bartlein barrel. SAME RESULTS!!! Insane. I’ve got the Jesus load here.

You load is exact same as mine for my bolt 6.5 creedmore.
