Get to know your Fudds

This thread kind of reminds me of the animosity between hunters. Still hunters hate dog hunters, bow hunters hate gun hunters, And now we have RAMBO'S hating FUDD'S. :D

Does anyone remember the old adage, "DIVIDE and CONQUER"? Keep making fun and pushing the FUDD'S further and further to the left and you can rest assured that the Schumers, Pelosi's, and Feinstein's or their equivalents will be there in greater and greater numbers.

I'm not sure where I fit in anymore? I bought a mini 25 years ago before anyone knew what an AR style rifle was and it is a true safe queen. I may have shot it a half dozen times. Maybe because it is 5.56 and I never cared much for the caliber. It is the only rifle I own that doesn't shoot 1 MOA or better. But if they ever ban "assault rifles" I'm pretty sure it will make the list along with its more cool AR cousins. So, I'll keep it. I like sporting rifles with wooden stocks. I like SA revolvers, hell I even like .22 single shots! I look at guns based on caliber. Right now I'm into 6mm, 6.5 mm, some of the magnum Bee's, and even .338. Kind of funny but I'm always scanning the classifieds on here and I find myself saying wow, that is a great deal if it was in a decent caliber instead of just another sorry ass .308 or .223 (or their metric equivalents) or God forbid, a .300 "BO". And it has nothing to do with the make, model, or appearance of the firearm. I wouldn't own an AR! Why? It's the damn calibers. So I guess I have some FUDD in me too. But I'm a member of both the NRA and the GOA. I hunt 6 days a week during the seasons and I carry ALL the time. So hell, I guess they would call me a friggin "moderate".

If you need to belong to a group, class or some kind of identity go gay, that group seems to welcome everyone, no judgment within the rainbow wrap and they need more 2ndA people I think....

I don't think school children should be armed on the playground.

That makes me a FUDD too.

We were armed when we were on the playground!!! Mostly knives, but once in awhile we would shoot squirrels off the swing sets with our pellet rifles. I guess we were RAMBOS instead of FUDDS. :D

I am for private ownership of artillery and warships just like when the Constitution was written and ratified.

Shall not be infringed.

So, are you referring to artillery and warships of the 1700's, when the Constitution was written, or now? :D

You are WAY overthinking this and taking it WAY too seriously. A FUDD is kinda like a redneck. Everyone has some redneck in them. But some people embrace it and take it to a professional level. It is the unsophisticated dedication to spreading ones own fuddishness. There is no "divide and conquer" going on, and anyone who (not saying you) is minimally offended by one of the above caricatures is self-inflicting victimhood. I personally have elements of at least 5 or 6 of the different profiles I lampooned above...that's how I identify them...cuz I is them.

I am of the opinion that if you can afford it, can afford to feed and house it, and are not going about harming / terrorizing others who have done you no harm, then you should be able to have anything your heart desires. Man-bearable Arms (from muskets up to 40watt range Plasma Rifles and EVERYTHING in between), check. Artillery (from black powder cannon to whatever might replace the 155mm), check. Warships (from USS Constitution to whatever will have the keel laid down next week), check. Aircraft (all shapes, sizes and performance characteristics), check. I might, maybe, possibly be able to consider some slight storage / registration restrictions on nukes over say 100 kT or so. If I have left something out and it goes BOOM!, consider it on the list! If it really should be just an accessory that is currently regulated for some reason, it should be available at the local grocers betwixt the light bulbs and the dog food if said establishment cares to engage in such commerce.

TL;DR -- A free man should be able to have any dang thing he wants, wallet depth ONLY withstanding!

I know a few, and they're pretty judgemental. This whole 'factions within the subculture' thing seems to be a human constant.

Just thought to mention that the captains (or masters) and crews of privately owned vessels in the time period being mentioned here still required a 'commission' or 'letter of marque' issued by a government to carry out "legal" warfighting action: lacking such documentation (perhaps sometime shadily issued or sometimes shadily ignored) made one liable for summary execution (hanging) as a pirate.

With the usual caveats for anything on Wiki, see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Privateer

Of course. I wasn’t endorsing murder and plunder on the high seas any more than I was endorsing murder and plunder with all the ARs we own.

I wasn't suggesting that you were - though the Veggie Tales Pirates Who Don't Do Anything song gets me fired up sometimes!

I throw a flag, he's too young to have paid anything less than 300 for a Mosin. :) Carry on.

I'm noticing that a lot of the new guys getting into guns are very much into the Rambo/Gecko45 side of things. I suspect its because virtually none of them have a family history of hunting or being an outdoorsman, but almost all of them have played military themed video games and watched action movies. It certainly colors their taste in firearms and gear.

I personally find a lot of them to be silly and over the top, but I support their right to be that way.

My taste in guns is weird, just like my preferences in everything else is weird. I like AR's, lever actions, and revolvers. I own a few poly semi-auto handguns, but they're for CCW and defense. I shoot wheelguns for pleasure. I don't own body armor, elbow pads, or a helmet, and I don't plan on buying any.

I think age and maturity has a lot to do with it. 20 years ago I was in to all things tacticool, now at 45 I’m more in to historical stuff.
But what ever gets people in to the shooting hobbies is a good thing right?

Good points, and I agree with you. The most important thing is that they're gun owners who support the 2A. Everything else just boils down to personal preferences.

An overall defining attribute of a FUDD is one that cannot conveive of anyone else having different needs, wants, or applications than they themselves have had. This is why you hear things like:
"No one needs a 30 round magazine"
"Revolvers are so antiquated"
"The AR isnt good for Home Defense"
"Silencers are too dangerous"
"Anything more than 6 rounds means you need more practice"
"No one needs a short barreled rifle"
"You cant hunt with those!"
"No one needs more than a few firearms."
"I own guns, but no one needs to carry them."

They have a complete incapability to understand that it is just >they themselves< that dont "need a 30 round magazine" or "Cant hunt with it" or "needs to carry one". If it doesnt fit into their version of how life is, then it is wrong completely. I know...cuz I was once a fudd in some ways.

I remember as a kid walking around a Gun Show thinking "Who needs these M16s" "Glocks...who wants a plastic pistol..." "Holsters? Why would you want to carry a gun all day." and so forth. But, then I grew up and matured and realized that >MY< perspective on what I want/need applies to a very narrow population...me. Over time, I came to embrace ARs, my first real carry pistol was a Glock, and I carry pretty much everywhere I go.

In truth, the FUDD disease infects most all aspects of our lives...in cars we hear "Who needs to spend XX amount of dollars on a car!" or "Why do you need a car that can go 0-60 in 3 seconds" or "Why does that lady need an SUV and all she does is drive herself." It really all boils down to a horrible incapability to accept that other people have seperate lives and the world does not, in fact, revolve around you.

Couple points...

1) The current two-party process we have is a sham. I think it could be argued that we really don’t have two parties...just one, having two factions that want the same thing. It’s not dumb to participate in the process...what’s troubling is the number of folks who participate in that process with the belief their side is right based solely upon a title; “Democrat”, or “Republican.”

2. Those having a frothy-mouthed fit and calling for/wishing for war is quite a bit different than those who study history, look at our current course and realize the potential for a future war to erupt is likely, should we stay on the path we are on.

Most Libertarians I know would like to avoid conflict, having a “live and let live” mentality. All they really want is to be left alone and live their lives as they see fit. They neither wish to control others, nor do they wish to be controlled. They want to live out the rest of their lives in peace...that’s it.

I fit right into that category.

No sane individual will wish for an all-out war within our borders. It has happened before and a helluva lot of folks paid a terrible price for it; both during the war and afterwards. The fallout from it, imo, is still with us today.

Should that ever occur again, the price paid will be no less costly than it was 150+ years ago. A lot of folks, whether directly or indirectly involved, would not live to see the end of it (if it really ever did “end”)....men, women and kids. Look at the member roster on this forum...see some of those names? Some of those folks would no longer be here once the dust settled and yeah, that saddens me because all-in-all, I think we’ve got a damned good forum with some damned good people and I’d hate to see anything happen to any of ya if it could be avoided.

So, yeah, you may have folks that are chomping at the bit for an armed conflict, but I will guarandamntee you that I ain’t one of them.

That said, I believe it prudent for folks to be as mentally, physically and spiritually (if they so desire) prepared as possible for what the future may hold.
I agree!

The second amendment is about going full semi auto...not hunting.

I see you made it that far. Now go back and read the rest of the post.

I wasn't disagreeing with you or anything like that...I read all of your post and it was good. I just found humor in what you said and it reminded me of that guy demonstrating how "full semi auto" was something that needed to be regulated.

I am glad people are increasingly arguing for the second amendment based on combat/self defense/fighting tyranny besides using hunting as the rationale...partially because of this guy.

If you guys are going to exclude all of those Fudds from the "gun club", it's going to be a pretty small club. I should think we'd want to be embracing everyone who ever thought about a gun instead of making fun of half of them. Once welcomed in, they may see things differently.
