The Ticks Are Here Already

“Betty Sue! Betty Sue, where are you girl?”
“I’m down here mama”
“Where’s down here?”
“Under the porch”
“Whatch you doin down there?”
“Eatin’ grapes”
“Land sakes girl, where did you get grapes?”
“Off the dog.”
Best joke I've heard in a long time! haha

Nasty little bastards are those pesky ticks. Just had blood test again to see if I still have that Alpha-gal red meat allergy form a Lone Star tick bite.

Results showed I was still positive once again with score number higher than before. Three years running now and no ribs, burger, steak, BBQ beef or pork, and worst of all NO BACON.

That'd SUCK! We just got a Traeger smoker/grill. I'm putting out tick tubes this evening.

Yes it sucks...can't eat deer, small four legged game...just seafood and chicken, turkey, and feathered creatures.

I wanted to "like" this post, but also din't want to "like" this post. It's feels the same as liking a post of a guy getting kicked in the nuts.

I hope it clears up soon!

Can you tell us when/if/how you first noticed symptoms?

Yes. Difficult to diagnose because symptoms don't show up until 6-10 hours after eating (or exposure to) red meat. Symptoms vary in individuals but mine were breaking out in hives/rashes, lip swelling, fingers hands and feet itching, and the worst...sinuses swelling, throat closing, and difficulty breathing. Have to stay armed with an EpiPen but never had to use it.

Also making it worse is cross contamination of cooking equipment. Example...can't order grilled chicken in a restaurant unless they have a separate grill for cooking chicken. They seldom do. Bacon, eggs, sausage, burgers, chicken usually all cooked on same grill. Can't eat pizza if a chance the pizza cutter was previously used to cut a sausage pizza. etc, etc.

Just ordered 30 cardboard tubes off Amazon for $10 and spend $1.75 at Walmart for cotton balls. I already had permethrin, and I am damn tired of these bloodsuckers already. Nobody in the fam has been bitten but I'm not taking any chances the rest of the year. They fittin to die!

I save toilet paper tubes during the year :D Bulk cotton balls from BJs. I'll need more permethrin for next year.

Ran into a friend yesterday, who is recovering from lyme disease. She said she found a deer tick on her thigh, attached, plucked it off, put it in a jar, and went to the urgent care. They started her on antibiotics, but she has been on a roller coaster ride with this. Been about 4 weeks now, and she says she is finally getting back to feeling better, but still on antibiotics.

Right now it looks like someone emptied a shotgun full of birdshot from my ankles to my beltline. Stepped into the high grass in a ditch to retrieve a mailbox some little ba*tard had hit with a ball bat. Appears I also stepped into a next of seed ticks and more chiggers than I knew could exists. Plucked probably 30 of the tiny ticks from my sock line and belt line by the time I realized I had them, most of them already bit in since they are so tiny. Thought all was well till the next day when the chigger bites started popping up. Funny how they make a one time a month pill to keep ticks off my dog, but nothing for me:mad:

That's all from a tick bite? Holy moly, that's rough and sorry you have to deal with it. Is it ever going away, or it for life?

Supposedly it "may go away over time" as per the doctor. Mine is probably for life since I have lived more life than I have yet to live. Does that even make any sense? o_O

It does....I, also, have more life behind me than there is ahead of me....weird, isn't it?

I still feel about 25....until I see the old lady in the mirror. lol.

Know what you mean. I still feel about 50...until I see the old man in the mirror.

There are lots of things that scare me.
Catching TB from patients at work, being run over on the interstate by a semi-truck.
But this terrifies me on a spiritual level.

The only thing that stops me from dousing my yard in permethrin is all the skinks, tree frogs, and bees we have around. Maybe I'll try the traps this year and see if there's a noticeable difference.

Permethrin on your socks don't do much when you walk through chin high weeds daily. I'm ate up with chiggers and flea bites too. At least my body quit reacting to mosquito bites years ago.

Looked at my leg today and thought "what a weird looking tick" and when I touched it, blood just exploded everywhere; it was a damn blood blister.

more bad news:
If you want to really have nightmares, read on to find out what’s happening to cows in North Carolina -- and what it could mean for humans.
Asian longhorned ticks, also sometimes called “clone ticks” because they can reproduce without mating, have killed five cows in the Tar Heel State this year -- by draining them of blood. Each cow was infested by hundreds of ticks.

Confirmed cases of Lyme disease showed up @ Mission Hospital in Asheville last week.

My shooting buddy in Sandy Ridge was just diagnosed with Lymes disease. Flu symptoms for a week led him to be tested.
I spray my outdoor clothing with permethrin and take a cold soapy shower asap when I get home.

I have just finished up my antibiotics for Lyme disease. Lone star tick got me while cutting grass.

This is gross. I carried this on the back of my leg for a couple of weeks. It kept itching and I assumed it was a bug bite.

Finally, one day, I took this picture of it and realized something else was going on. I was about to head to the dermatologist to get it looked at when my wife told me she wanted to get a close look at it. She said I had a dang tick.

Immediately yanked that sucker out.

That was back in May. I still have an irritation at that spot and just this morning my wife cut it open and cleaned out what I believe was the left over head from that tick. Plenty of peroxide and Neosporin was applied at the end.

My leg feels much better now. It was just behind my knee on my right leg.

I didn’t think that ticks would hang on for more than a few days, certainly not weeks!

Pulled one off my wrist the other day.

My buddy has lone star disease. His stomach gets torn up when he eats beef or pork. After a bit on the throne he is ok. If he takes Claritin before eating he usually isn’t bothered.

Nasty little Bastards those tick are.

3+ years now into the red-meat (four legged mammal) allergy Alpha -gal from the Lone Star Tick bite.

This week I also tested POSITIVE for Lyme Disease.

Not too bad. I have the aching muscle and joint issues with swelling in the joints. Night sweats at times. Restless at night. Dizziness at times. That's it basically. I started antibiotics for the LD a week ago.

Alpha-gal (red meat allergy) I'm fine as long as I don't eat any meat other than seafood, chicken, turkey, other birds. Those symptoms are rashes, swollen lips and fingers, swollen nasal passages. I carry an EpiPen but have never had to use it.
