At least one of the sensors on my 2010 Corolla is acting squirrelly, causing the light to come on even though all the tire pressures are normal. Since they are all about 10 years old I plan to replace them all. Any suggestions for a good (and reasonably priced) local (Winston-Salem area) source for this? I see the sensors for sale online for as little as $100 for four, but then there is installation, and getting the sensors to talk to the TPMS system, which make this not a DIY job, at least not for me.

Therre should be 5 - Did you check the spare?

The spare doesn't have a sensor. I did make sure it was fully inflated, though.

Not to mention taking tires off and installing new ones. Just deal with the light until you need tires again and then replace it.

Price seems about right. I have the TPMS tool for GM's. Bought it because I was sick and tired of going back all the time after oil change/tire rotation to have them sync the TPMs correctly.

Like another poster stated wait until you buy tires again and get it done then.

Any competent tire store can swap one and program it to the car.

Sensors from the dealer are pricey(Toyota anyway).Look on Amazon and if they are compatible they should work fine and save you money.

Don't know what the going rate is at other shops but we charge $15 labor to install and program.

Most likely the batteries on one is shot. Older versions of TPMS monitors run on batteries. So if you have one that is dying you will soon have 4 IMHO. It is often cheaper to buy a set of 4 sensors than the individuals. I would replace them all. Find a local tire shop that will install mount and balance the tire for $15-$20 a tire.

I bought a set off amazon to go in some Craigslist takeoff wheels for my sons Tacoma. I think they cost $80 for 4 and they work fine. Took the wheels and tires up to the local tire shop and they installed new tpms sensors, balanced tires and swapped out for existing wheels and tires for around $60.

I just let Discount Tire replace and install them.
I think that's what I will do. I buy my tires from them, in fact they just put a new set on the Corolla in May (but of course the sensors wouldn't have the decency to act up before I put the tires on). They quoted me a decent price that includes installation.

I hate TPMS systems. They serve no functional purpose except to make people money and cost the consumer more. They were federally mandated in 2007 I think under the umbrella of safety but they do no such thing.
