I have an anniversary coming up and the wife and I are kicking around thoughts about places to go and things to see within a 100 mile radius of Raleigh.

Last year we went to the Moravian Village near downtown Winston / Salem, and enjoyed it.

Any suggestions?

Thx.

Scott

Guilford Courthouse if you are in that area. Not sure it would be worth it's own trip. But it's a neat driving tour with some stops to get out and look around.

NC aviation museum... Asheboro, near the zoo. Among other things, they have a Link trainer; a friend's dad was in RAF (american, never left the states) who taught british pilots. His son and I visited the museum, and he put a lot of his dad's WWII memorabilia on loan to their trainer display.

Also, one of NC's last covered bridges is nearby. Wives went to that while we looked at airplanes; probably not gonna work for anniversary...

115 miles puts you in New Bern. Walk around the old downtown all day?

1. Asheboro zoo.
2. the Carolinian.
3. Raleigh museums.

If you are into such things, there is a store in Greensboro called Replacements. Stop in and take the tour and look around at their museum pieces.

They sell out of date china and flatware patterns. They have onsite silversmiths and they cut missing service pieces from other pieces they have. The museum has silver cup trophies and White House place settings.

Not worth a trip on its own, but a great stop between stops.

I've been several times and on their mail-list for my wife's china pattern. We've had to buy several pieces over the years due to breakage. One thing to note - they are EXPENSIVE! It's still a neat place to go and look around. Even the old antique display cases are a marvel to look at as a woodworker.

Cherokee a good drama up there is called “Unto These Hills” Every time I see it makes my eyes water for some reason.

They have the village with shops and a very nice museum also.

Replacements Unlimited is neat. Letting the wife in there is expensive.

Ill say to head back to WS, but Im biased.
Greensboro does have the old Courthouse and some good restaurants around

I like the Asheboro idea, with the aviation museum and stop in at The Table for food

Oh, and Delks in Asheboro

Daniel Boone Inn for breakfast is pretty good. I also recommend Shatley springs for dinner but get a hotel closer than 100 miles.
