EDC and GPS Watch Article up!

Nice writeup, but I have questions.
Your 3:1 point - what three items did it replace?
I know you stated it's not run on cell towers, but much like the standard garmin gps etc, but how is that better than using Google Maps offline on your phone? With that feature you can download maps to your phone and use them without cell service.

A quick search on Amazon shows the Alpha Traverse at $360+, that's a lot of money!

Great questions

Google maps download is something i have never done so thats a new one to me. In this response i have nothing.

Replacement items
1. A typical GPS unit with prefilled waypoints, routes and POI
2. Standard digital watch
3. Weather station for long range shooting.

Side note, you found my route of articles for future conversations and uses. Lol
For me its more of a compression ratio.

Cost, its like a new Glock and gets more use daily use.

Thanks for reading the article i hope it opened your point of view to different ideas.

Good write-up, John. It’s missing just one piece of info after you get me nodding and agreeing that it’s a good device: how much/where to buy. Sure, I can pull up Amazon and search; but a direct link adds to your story. Amazon offers a way to create a link that gives you some sort of credit if the user purchases through that link. I don’t know how to do it.

Good work.

Maybe I missed it in the article, what sort of weather station does it have?

Look into Google Maps, you can download maps to your device and use them offline without the use of internet

Used that, and WILL use that, in Canada a few years ago. It was a quick trip and neither really felt like, or needed, to spend the inflated rate for international when we were only in Canada about 24 hours. At our hotel we downloaded Maps and it worked great.

Thanks for the info and will look into the google maps offline idea.

As to the weather station abilities. I will follow up articles. This article was about POI and navigation for EDC. Check this link out, more detail then i can type.

I took your advise and found out how it done.

John, since you asked......

in your opening paragraph I think that the word you want is "complacently", not "complicity".

RE: "My typical use of the watch is with the MoveScout website to pre-select Points of Interest "POI" and download them from the website to the watch. the POI's I upload are key points for travel ". John - in the second sentence the should be capitalized.

RE" Such as the location of bridges as an example, that is upstream from a flooded river I had to navigate around during Hurricane Mathew in 2016. "

John - consider changing this to read "An example of this would be the location of bridges that are upstream from a flooded river I had to navigate around during Hurricane Mathew in 2016. "

RE: " This allows me when I need to navigate new areas in a situational aware posture." Consider changing to "This allows me to navigate new areas in a situational aware posture."

RE: "I have done this in Washington D.C. and On vacation near Mt. Rushmore. " John - "On" should not be capitalized.

RE: "I enjoy our Play Station 4 from time to time when I can. One of the game series I play is Tom Clancy's The Division franchise from Ubisoft. I had a professional connection with the North Carolina office of Ubisoft from my War Sport / LVOA days and its use in the game". Consider changing to "When time permits, I enjoy our Play Station 4. One of the game series that I play is "Tom Clancy's The Division" franchise from Ubisoft. I had a professional connection with the North Carolina office of Ubisoft from my War Sport / LVOA days (it's used in the game)".

RE: "For the past year, I have been keeping track of battery Life. Fully charged and using in GPS Mode the battery lasts about 24 hours of non-stop use. In normal watch use, a single charge lasts about 4 weeks. In workout use, GPS on to record the workout 40 min’s 3 times a week: charge lasts about 7 days."

John consider "For the past year, I have been keeping track of battery life. Fully charged and in GPS Mode the battery lasts about 24 hours of non-stop use. In normal watch use, a single charge lasts about 4 weeks. In workout use 40 min 3X per week (GPS on) a charge lasts about 7 days." I removed the capital L on life, removed the word "using" and cleaned up the working on workout portion.

RE: "I use the stopwatch function, GPS distance recording to see how far I have ran or rucked. The pace function to reach speed goals, all of this is transferred to the MoveScout app for tracking workout progress. " John consider "I use the stopwatch function with GPS distance recording to see how far I have runor rucked and the pace function to reach speed goals. All of this is then transferred to the MoveScout app for tracking workout progress."

RE: "The Losing Weight After 40 Article, this GPS watch is a fundamental tool in my self-improvement." Consider changing to " With regard to "The Losing Weight After 40 Article", this GPS watch is a fundamental tool in my self-improvement.

Thank you for the edits.

I will go and adjust.
