Motorcycle love

View attachment 137454 I pulled the trigger on another Honda ST-1300 back a couple of months ago.. Liked the new one I bought back in 06 then sold a few years later to dabble in other other bikes so much, I bought another one.. It suits me well.

Is that an ‘03 or ‘07? I’ve got an ‘06. If you weren’t a member before, check out www. st-owners.com. You can find out anything you would ever want to know about ST’s there. You should also check out the Blue Ridge Gathering in October in Haywood County. There will be about 40 or 50 ST’s there and lots of good riding. You can find all the info on the ST site I listed.

This is an 07 that has 40K on the clock that I bought from the second owner for $3800 just North of Greensboro. I was a member of the St forum back then and re upped my log in.. Like you suggested , its a great source of info like you said. I didn't know about the gathering,, will look into it, thanks for heads up...

I loved the KLR, I always had one for many years, My first street bike back in 88's was a KLR.

After riding a bike as my daily driver for over 30 years, I've only had 2 accidents on the street, both in the last 5 years. In the last 2 years, I have seen more and more people just plain not paying attention to the road. More and more people just not caring for others on the road, I've been pushed out of the way many times. Beginning of June this year, I had a bike totaled out from under me. I only had a few small scratches, could have been a lot worse. I'm going to 50 soon, and don't bounce back like I once did. So, I have stopped ridding.

That is so true about drivers not paying attention.... some just don't care. I probably have a few good years left of riding a street bike and then I'll give it up too. I plan on mild trail riding well beyond that though. :)

My husband finally bought a Can Am Spyder this year and loves it. We live near Hwy 66 hear in Pilot Mountain,NC and it stays very busy with bikes in the Summer. I still ride my own but the Can Am F3 Sport is starting to look real good. I'm 63 and started when I was 50.

My new to me bike. This is my first. Still have to get it inspected before I can get hard tags. Can anyone recommend a good shop in the Burlington area? Hopefully the learning curve isn't too steep.

Just take her easy and youll be fine.
Remember that YOU are in control.
Keep your head on a swivel, always scanning in front, sides, and behind/mirrors. ALWAYS BE WATCHING.

My Sister, just like me always had at least one bike in the stable finally got rid of her Suzuki at the age of about 55 and bought a Spyder/sport model because she didn't have to hold it up anymore and Im good with that.. Finally she talked me into trying her Spyder, even tho I didn't want to.. Reminded me of riding a high powered 4 wheeler on the street and the hardest thing I had to break myself of doing was putting my feet down when I stopped. She still has the sport model and since then bought the touring model for longer rides. That's a very large, I cant even call it a motorcycle, how about a beast ? When I got off her sport model, I had to tell her how great it was. I understand that some folks really really like these, but personally I don't get it..I guess I missed the nimbleness that a 2 wheeled bike has, she enjoys the solid feeling the 3 wheeler has and Im good with that. Either way, both your Husband and my Sister are riding and that's all that matters..

Look up some videos on countersteering. You need to understand this thoroughly.

OH! One more thing - if youre interested in a new Yamaha or Kawasaki, give my neighbor Marc a shout at Kevin Powell Motorsports in WS.

I loathe Kevin Powell’s commercials so much that I’ve vowed never to shop there. Though, if Marc can get decent pricing...

KP target market is desperate people with crappy credit who will pay 20%APR and 25 to 50% over market for used vehicles.
I will never go to any of his businesses.

Yes, they do qualify people with poor credit, but that's on the buyer ultimately.

Of course. The is no shortage of fools who will buy into that crap.
My first new car was a 1990 Toyota tercel.
My credit wasn't great. Interest rates were a lot higher than even with good credit. ~10%.
The APR I got was 16%. But I needed a car. Mine died.

He made a comment about some folks getting high into the 20s, and I was like "Jesus!" and he was like, "Yeah, Ive got friends that ask me how I sleep at night...I tell them 'great.'"
Fact is, he's not forcing anyone to buy these machines. If they are that irresponsible to pay 20+% then that's on them. He's there to do his job, which is selling machines. Good on him and God bless the USA and capitalism.

DG seats are top notch, or at least they were 20 years ago, assuming they still are

It's a nice one. Got it on closeout 4 or 5 years back. Paid pennies on the dollar for what they generally cost. Rode that sucker from Detroit to Tampa. Upgraded to a bigger bike and saved the seat. Just been waiting a couple years now to pass it along.

Here's a link to a guy who has a series of videos that may take some of the mystery out of some things for you. He also has a video he sells but pretty much everything he's selling is on his YouTube channel. It's worth a look.

my 18 year old son just bought an 82 CB900C......and while I beam with pride, and know that it's a project that may not ever actually run on the street......it worries the absolute hell out of me because I know he has my genes and worse luck. I had wrecked my Dad's CB900C about 24 years ago but we ended up fixing it

In high school, a friend of mine's dad had a CB900C that he'd let him ride. I used to trounce him on the regular with my KZ 650, but the 650s were known to be exceptionally quick bikes & I know the big CB's weight & shaft drive weren't doing it any favors.

I had a 1981 CB 750C and didn’t have any problems with any 650’s back then!
Maybe your friend just didn’t know how to ride it?

Big part of that weight was the 4 into 2 into 1 exhaust. I dumped it for a MAC 4-1 drag pipe and some aluminum bars and if you knew how to shift the dual speed trans it would run pretty well for a big boy bike. My 84 700S had shaft drive and I would take it again that KZ650 any time ;)

Not mine but:
Last night on the History Channel that had the top 10 police vehicles and on happened to be a Suzuki Hayabusa. The motorbike patrol in Puerto Rico used confiscated bike for their officers. They beefed it up a little and claimed the top speed was over 200+ MPH. Really a neat looking police bike.

There's not enough straight-away in PR to get that Busa up to full speed.......maybe on a airport runway, maybe. What they need is to confiscated some KLR650s with knobby tires like CMPD have.....to patrol the 3rd world that PR is now (has been) post-Maria

@Ikarus1 I have ridden one and come nowhere close to the potential of the bike (maybe 110ish) but it did not take long to get there. If you know what you are doing you can it 100 around 4 seconds or close. Not for me.

Ive been on one a couple of times also. For all that power, the long wheelbase makes for a comfortable ride but it's hard to find a used one that hasn't been "brotha bubba'd" with chrome and stupid swingarm extensions. I like the Kawasaki big bikes a little better, and the pre-2015 Concours 14 is just about perfect for ability vs ride comfort in a big bore big boy bike without going to a full blown sport tourer

The FJR 1300 is a close 3rd

I hate KP commercials. But, back in 2016, I purchased a 2015 bike from them. I paid in cash, so I did not have to deal with the bullshit. KP was great to work with, bike was a left over 2015 listed at 12,999, I purchased it out the door for 9,999.

I used to day dream about getting my hands on a ZZR1200 or a ZX11D to hotrod, but my ZRX broke me of my need for speed. Fun, but scared the crap outta me on the regular. Not entirely convinced it wasn't possessed & tryin' to kill me.

I know I've posted these before, but what's a bike thread without pics?

Nighthawk S? One of the best all-around motorcycles ever made. Plenty quick and fast, handled well; air-cooling with hydraulic valve actuation and shaft drive made it super-low maintenance. Even had a good seat. I sometimes regretted getting an Interceptor instead of a Nighthawk, but the V-four had more poke at low revs.

I always wished Honda would have made a 1000cc Nighthawk S.
