Jiu-Jitsu seminar W-S

Mario Aiello is a bad dude. Depending on if you had someone to go with, probably would be pretty good. I have to know who I'm rolling with/sparring with nowadays.

My daughter takes classes at a small place in Statesville. She has only had about a month of classes and has picked it up pretty quick. She goes three times a week for an hour and they teach the ground stuff and striking. There was another parent that said he fought in mma stuff 15 years and she had a nasty punch.

I really want to try BJJ, but frankly at 50 I’m worried about joint injuries.
But have known people that started late and really like it.
This will sound funny, but, you have to know your limitations, and if you go to a respectful Dojo, you would be fine. And not rolling with the people that seem like they have a point to prove. It doesn't take long to realize who they are either. I'll only roll with people I know. I'm 45, and started my journey in year 2000. Stand up sparring is a little different for me, as I can dictate whether we go or stop, but if some young buck catches you in a arm bar, you can only hope he doesn't rip your arm off.
Don't be discouraged by your age, just have to be smart about how and who you train with.

That doesn’t sound funny at all. Sounds like real good advice. Thanks.

I second Stick Man's advice ... he has years of experience on me but my place has several men and women starting in their 40s and 50s. I can't put it any better than he did, but wanted to encourage you as well

Thanks. Still haven't done anything. But a close friend of mine basically quit smoking and drinking and started about 2 1/2 months ago. Just got his first stripe on his white belt like last week. Which he is proud of, heh. He's really liking it and seems like he already looks better and has a better disposition.

Man, that's awesome for your friend. Getting that first stripe is like gold when your serious about it. I never tested past blue ( I was more into submission wrestling when it came to grappling, never been a fan of the Gi), but even though I didn't care a lot for Gi work, I was super proud to get to blue. I still have my blue belt and the rest of my certs hanging up on my wall in my reloading room. A lot of sweat and tears (and some blood mixed in, lol) went in to my journey. Now get ur azz into a Dojo, stat, haha.
