Perhaps it could be a unisex bathroom. Perhaps, since gender is a social construct and it was in California, the man identified as a woman and went into the women's rest room. Perhaps the man thought the LEO was a man, an honest mistake judging by the picture in the story, and went into the women's rest room thinking it was the rest room for men. It was California. The possibilities are almost unlimited.

I've never understood the whole "pooping with a firearm is hard" mumbo jumbo. It seriously should not even be a point of discussion. Or, it should be so obvious that it becomes one of those "new guy on the forum posts" like "Show your CCW!" or "9mm v 45?!"

And had the same thing happened to (or was allowed to happen by) a member of Joe Public (presumably legally carrying - if that is still possible in CA) what do we suppose might have been the consequences to them?

"I expect to be held accountable and I want to publicly apologize for my carelessness, and I hope that in some way this serves as a lesson for others," Cantrell said.

Right.

Make 'em use lanyards like the Mounties.

Oh, and don't let PC political-appointee Police Chiefs carry guns.

Right.

And how is she to be held accountable? Take the cost of the gun out of her check?

As long as "he" identified as an unarmed person when "he" left the bathroom with the firearm, the "dude" is innocent.

We just had the thread where something similar happened and several on here admitted to doing the same thing but go ahead and do your virtue signaling.

I knew a guy who would carry a briefcase that was chained to him as part of his government work. The security measure was not so much to prevent theft, but prevent accidentally leaving it somewhere. He carried the key with him.

Gun lanyard would work, or maybe ban pooping.

I'm a civilian and I carry a firearm. I paid money for it.

If she had a lanyard, no doubt it would have been disconnected.

My biggest fear in carrying is that I'll leave it somewhere and wind up on the news, mug shot and all, every news break, for days and days. WRAL would be running "this is why only those in authority over us should have guns" type stories for days and days. Probably have a remote unit with a drone outside my house.

My son is a cop and I have nothing but the highest respect for them, but she needs to be fired! If you don’t have enough sense to retain your firearm, you don’t have enough to run a department! Jus sayin...
What are your thoughts on people who 'dont have enough sense to retain your firearm' but arent police chiefs? Like, what about a normal person?

Try to imagine the Chief lecturing her officers on anything. How will any of them ever take her seriously?

“Hi, I’m your Chief; do as I say, not as I do”.
