Lengthy article, but worth the read to see what Ford thinks of it's customers.

As someone with first hand experience with the Fiesta., they are absolute crap.
I unfortunately was fooled into buying one by the good reputation they have in Britain, but those are the manual transmissions, which Ford is reluctant to offer int he US.

My coworker had the transmission replaced four times in his Focus that was purchased new.
Service manager said the transmissions failed because of the way my friends wife drives the car.
He still drives it and his wife now drives a new Camry.

Dont know if its the same issue causing this, but they had torque converter issues on the freestar vans that caused similar problems.

My fix was a custom built unit from a guy that built them for race cars, never had any issues with it.

2014 ford fiesta owner, 112k miles (approx), no issues
But Ive heard of many many issues with that powershift tranny
This report is ridiculous, pisses me off.

That guy wouldn't be Greg Slack would it?

Are you me?

Mine's on it's second clutch. First one at 30,000 miles. They finally got the software sorted out and it at least doesn't fall on it's face accelerating, but still sounds like someone rolling dice shifting gears. It figured out recently it seems to do better in sport mode where you can manually shift.

In addition to that, rear shocks went kablooey about 10,000 miles after the first clutch.

I hate your troubles with the Fiesta. I’m still all in for Fords, but drove GMs for years.

F150, best selling vehicle in the world, and I sure do love mine. Wife has a 2014 Escape. I hope that tin can will hold together. And it IS a tin can.

That said, Chrysler, and GM would be gone were it not for the help from .gov, backed by taxpayers, so I figure they don’t deserve to be here. Ergo, I’ve got a blue oval tattooed on my pasty white hindquarters now.

Was that a choice based on Love of Ford, or just 'cause you were picking something up in the driveway when the wife was still getting to know her new Escape? :D

And maybe these fiesta stories are one of the reasons Ford stopped making cars... they couldn't make one to match Japanese or Korean function and reliability.

This one seems to be fine

99 Taurus wagon 298K, 99 Sable 239K and a 17 Edge 52K all Hertz used cars.

Ok, I am once again that a-hole. There is plenty of info out there 0n vehicle maintenance and reliability. None of these stories are shocking. But we all tend to get all emotional about cars/trucks and follow the shiny or cheap object.

Hey, has anyone ever seen a thread about problems with a Taurus, Rossi, RIA etc? :p

I just saw they sold cars do the offer warranties at all or just you get what you get situation?
$100 deductible with included 12 month 12K warranty or you can spend more money for longer coverage.
I got the Edge in Rock Hill, SC the state caps the doc free at $250 vs $595 at NC locations.
They have link to carfax, most of the cars are fleet and some like the one I got were certified, normally leased to a company for one driver.
I fix my own cars so no warranties for me.

This has to do with one specific transmission only put in two cars and having LOTS of problems.

I used to get letters in the mail, they kept extending the coverage on it...but I learned, later, that it was only for software updates, not the physical parts.

I stated before no issues, which, I guess is true. But, Ive experienced some of the side effects of the car, mostly going up an incline at low speed (20mph in traffic, stuttering).

It's not a great system and it sucks to hear the company knew that.

I don't have much experience with Ford cars, but I've got a 2003 F150 that has over 350,000 miles on it with no major repairs, and I would drive it anywhere.
Ought 2 F150 with over 302K, still going strong. I have not babied it.

That's awesome guys. My 02 150 just hit 150k, so I should have a LONG way to go.

Ford's 6F35 Transmission is not that great either... many issues in the Fusion, Focus and other cars. Went through quite a roe with Ford over that one and had to get corporate involved for them to step up and fix the damn thing.

After reading about the problematic transmission(s), I ought to point out that my F150 is manual. While I think it's silly to have the clutch slave cylinder inside the bell housing, making a $70 bolt-on part a >$300 labor cost extravaganza, I still prefer manual to auto. The old adage applies: less complicated systems break down less often.

There is plenty of info out there 0n vehicle maintenance and reliability.
Yep. And Ford certainly has had its share of poor design features, bad parts/systems and outright lemons. Caveat emptor, in this as in all other purchases.

That said, I ain't no spring chicken, I've never bought a showroom-new car or truck, and the youngest used vehicle I've ever purchased* is this one, which was 3 when I bought it. I've been through lots of vehicles from my 1966 Pontiac Catalina, my '68 Fury, my '72 Gran Torino, my 80-something S-10, my '73 RD-350 (whee!), through my '76 Datsun PU, my Buick wagon, my Nova, my E150, my VW Fastback, etc., etc., to today's beat-up work truck. I've also helped many a friend & relation push, tweak, and repair his or her chariot of varied mfg.

The #1 criterion for me (YMMV), over performance, style, or comfort, is reliability. I need my wheels to get me to work. That's why I keep coming back to Fords. In my experience (again: YMMV), they have been the most reliable vehicles, even in the face of (ahem) "stretched" maintainance schedules, ham-fisted DIY repairs, Rueben Goldbergian accessorization, and hard- and long use. Warning lights! CrackleView(tm) windows! Disintigrating plastic parts! Leaks! Rust! Shorts! Dents! Fades! Yep. My Fords age like Keith Richards.

But- stick the key in, turn it, they start, and I'm on my way to work. Sometimes with a bag over my head, but on the way to work nonetheless.

Do not get me started on Ford. I will write more later but let me just say of the three I’ve had in 5 years (fleet vehicles) two of them have had major major issues

I'll say something bad about a Ford part, then praise a local dealer for stepping up to help.

My power steering went out on my car about a year and a half a go, if I remember correctly.
It's a whole electronic unit and pretty pricey at around, 1600 bucks for the job.

I did some digging - Ford had issued a recall on the Fusion and Focus, both sharing the part with my car, but no issue on my model.
When I said 'ok' to the repair they then said they couldnt get one, they were out all across the nation.
I pushed on tis, how I found it ridiculous that the same part on all three platforms was failing, but only two of those platforms had a recall on the part. I pushed and pressed hard.
About two weeks and the part was in and the install done. When I arrived to get repairs done they, Parkway, said they'd knock half off. Rad.

A few weeks later I got a check in the mail for the amount that I paid. I called and they said that they were sorry for the issues I was having with Ford on this and that I was correct - same part on all three cars and they were ALL having issues (why there was a national shortage).

I really hold Parkway Parts and Service department in high regard.
Now, their sales team...well I had a very ugly experience with them and a cocky prick of a salesman and sales manager.

We have some of the Focuses lots of driver complaints about the transmission no full blown failures surprisingly. I don't directly manage the light equipment fleet but it seems the complaints are reduced after a trip to the dealership.

We have a mixed fleet of a few thousand vehicles. Our full-size trucks seem pretty trouble free. I can't think of a car we have in any quantity that doesn't have known issues after a few years. Maybe the Fusions... The fleet is light on late model imports though.

He still drives it and his wife now drives a new Camry.
A friend is on her 3rd trans in a 10yo focus.

All my Fords have been good cars and trucks. But the ones I've had were mostly the classics..Mustangs, F150's, Galaxie's...
And I'm a Dodge man.
I like the Dodge because they're easy to get power out of, and easy to work on. Parts are usually the most expensive though.
All the Fords and Dodge's I've had have never left me sitting. If/when they developed an issue, they'd warn ya. Stutter, cough, stumble...something. You could at least get to the gas station and many times I limped them home.
Every Brand X vehicle I've owned, including spanking new ones, have left me sitting on the road at least once. No warning either. Drivin' along and all-of-a-sudden..bluhhh...just dies, and there you are.
So you go to fix it and the motor is metric and the rest of the vehicle is english. The part you need to get at is buried under 7 other parts, you know..under tiny stuff like the air conditioning system.
wtf.
GM is also the king of weird crap happening that no-one can figure out. For example, as you're out driving around and see a car/truck with just one headlight on..in the daytime..guarantee it's a GM.

GM has the foolish computer circuit to activate the third brake light instead of simple switch.

I’ve never had a serious issue with Ford vehicle I have ever owned and I’ve owned my fair share. I’ll continue to buy them.

Got out of a dodge and back to ford in March. My mom had an 06ish focus and the transmission started slipping around 125k miles. Not to bad with how she treats vehicles. My wife totaled it at about 130k miles. I traded my ram for an F150 in March. The rams transmission started running hot all the time. Never slipped or shifted hard was just hot. I wanted to get rid of it before any major issues happened. Only issue so far with the ford has been the sunroof and that seems fixed now.

Anything mass produced can have problems, when they rush to market and have mass failures like the transmissions,
that is not the way to do business. These days they outsource just about all the parts so quality can suffer.

They don't want to repair cars anymore. They want you to replace them.

I work in the auto repair business. They all break at some point. In my 13 years there the one brand with the least problems?Toyota by a mile.

I have two fords,one chevy,one nissan,one toyota,and two dodge's at the moment.Not counting parts cars of course.

My 2000 Taurus has 223500 miles on it and runs like new. My 2003 F250 has 89000 miles and isn’t even broke in. My 2019 Fusion has 175 miles. Bought them all new. This is my 6th truck and all have never let me down. Looking at another F250 now. Just want a new truck.

You going to sell that F250?
