Last week was the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament down in Morehead. I usually take a couple days off to check out the activities and go fishing (not in the tourney). Wore out Spanish and Blues on the jetty at Ft Macon due to the surf being filled with small silverside hatchlings. The surf was filled with the bait fish on up to sharks so I'm surprised there hasn't been any more accidental shark attacks.

Went down yesterday and finally caught my first large drum, an overslot fish, and saw several Old drum swimming around the flats but they wouldn't eat.

Caught her in between storms yesterday. On a size 12 Prince Nymph. Took my 5wt fly rod for a ride. Hooked into her and she jumped, threw the hook, quickly roll cast right back on top of the spot where I lost her and we hooked right back up.

Knowing the size of your hands, that's about a 4 pounder, right? :D

This one took the beetle spin twice before I hooked it. Put up a pretty good fight on an ultralight spinning rod.

View attachment 133548 Not a fish, but this manatee was drinking rain water dripping from the drain hole of my boat during some rain about a week ago. This was in the AIW behind Oak Island.

I didn’t realize we had manatee in NC. Cool!

I have seen them several times. I hope they do not get too common because I do not what the AIW to become one long no wake zone. This one only had two prop scars on its back. I do wonder how long you must be at sea to make you think that a manatee looks like a beautiful mermaid.

We had a camper set up on a permanent lot at Ocean Isle on the waterway for several yrs. We saw them several times the last couple of years we were there.

My son has gotten the fishing bug. We took him a week or so ago and he caught his first (first picture), so then he wanted to go again so we braved the rain Saturday at Salem lake. Going to try to find a day to take off to go get him something a bit bigger soon.

Still at my sisters... Friday I got skunked but still got 2hrs of quality fishing in.

Saturday and Sunday was raining. Went out for a bit but a T-storm or two popped up. Only caught one small bass. No pictures due to the rain.

Today (Monday) all my work on the outdoor shower was completed ahead of schedule. Had about 4hrs on the lake. Be-u-ti-ful day! 75 in the sun, 10mph wind.
:):);)

No live bait. This one was caught on a slaw color spinner with a white grub trailer.

By the looks of your rig you seem to know that river and how to fish it. Might need to pick your brain at some point. Was going to buy a decent kayak, but not really sure what is best for the New. Might hire a guide a time or two just to float and check it out.

Can’t help with that area but kayak fishing is great. Kayaks can get to a lot of places boats can’t and can be launched almost anywhere. We purchased a couple hobies last year and love them. I’ve got a Jackson big rig I’m wanting to part ways with. It’s great for large guys, I’m 6’3” and about 300. Smaller guys like them to because of their stability.

This is the one man raft that I usually use on the river during the warm months and sometimes in the cold months using waders. The fish is a Walleye, it was 36 inches and weighed 15 pounds. Caught on a spinner bait on the NR.

The other pictures were from my buddies 3 man raft. It is 15 feet long with a trolling motor.

That’s a nice walleye. I caught a few up in NY in May that were very tastey.

Awfully nice weather to catch a walleye. LOL Guess the old rules might not apply down here that do up north.

Rules? What rules? I release everything that I catch. The only time anything went into my live well was when I was doing tournaments and then after weigh-in they were released. Never lost a fish.
