So I've decided to start looking around for a new rifles and I kinda decided on a non ar non bullpup semi auto 5.56.

My list is
Bushmaster ACR
IWI Galil Ace
CZ Bren 805
Beretta ARX
FN Scar 16
Robinson XCR
Sig 556

Of those the only ones I'm really interested in are the first 3 and of those the ACR is my favorite and I would have probably bought one already if I didn't have to spend $600 to get a barrel in a proper twist.
The Bren S1 has been discontinued and there has been only a trickle of S2 pistols coming in with no news about import of rifles. The Galil while nice is quite heavy. The ARX looks like a tuna, and the SCAR and XCR are too expensive. And I know nothing about the sig 556

Gosh, I ran a Gen 3 NVD on mine for years using an A.R.M.S quick detach mount. No problems with return to zero. Other companies make low profile rails that mount to the top of the receiver too.

Find a PTR made HK93 clone. :)

There is also AKs in 5.56.

I am waiting on Bren s2 as well..mainly want one in 308, but I wont be too picky push come to shove.

I have not heard good news about the Century made ones.

The PTR-built Century C93, which was a "Bud's Guns" exclusive, is quite nice. I have one and mag prices are pretty much my only squawk. Mine has a claw mount with a 2.5x ACSS optic. It's fun, and that HK slap never gets old.

Also, as @Jabroni alluded to, the Arsenal SLR-106 is a fine, fine shooter in 5.56. Lightweight and very accurate. It juggles for the top spot/go-to gun in my AK stable.

Finally, I've never shot an ACE in 5.56 but if it's even remotely as nice as the x39 model - which we all know it is - you'll have a damn fine rifle in it. "Heavy" is subjective, but unless you plan on holding it over your head while wading through chest-high water all day, I think you'll be fine.

I'd say Arsenal in 5.56, but I've never shot one. But the chance to have one with a nice set of wood and it shoot 5.56 seems like a nice option.

Sig 556 is legit but they have been out of production for a while. It’s based on the Swiss Arms SG550, which is basically a weird looking 5.56 Swiss AK with no parts interchange. The bolt and piston are almost identical in operation.

Love mine, it’s dead reliable but replacement parts are very hard to come by and expensive. Sig may or may not fix them anymore. I’ve put some Swiss parts on mine and SBR’d it make a SG553 clone money pit.

JDI is importing the real Swiss guns the Sig 556 is based on but they cost over $3000.

Arsenal SLR106 is good. Would recommend. My current one is coming up on 1,000 rounds with zero problems.

I handled an ARX and I wasn’t impressed. Feels like plastic junk.

One area of consideration with either the hk93 and clines or arsenal 106 is tthe cost of mags.. steel hk 30 rders will set you back 70 a pop. 30rd polish beryls are 36 each, or arsenal 556 mags 45 a pop. Just something to think about if you stock a bunch of mags for your guns.

The 93 is sweet though, as is the 106..both are ones I usually grab when I want to send some lead down range.

Cant speak to the sig rifles personally..

Eta...there is an arsenal 106 in the Fs area..no affiliation...

That is bad ass!!

The mechanism is cool but appearance is way to ar15 for me. I don't have anything in particular against them other than its appearance.
I already have AKs.

Im really leaning towards the ACR. According to a few other online sources the new production ones from this year are shipping with the 1:7 barrel and ambi charging handles installed.

Id love to get a Bren 2 with a 14" but i cannot find a single one in stock or listed anywhere.

The HK SL7 is a semi-auto 5.56 and it is not remotely like an AR. As a bonus, they cost about half as much as a HK-93.

I realize you are looking for NON AR,
But also look into the POF Revolution.
It’s a 308 built with ALL AR15 parts, including the bolt and BCG, significantly reduced recoil, and it is the exact same size as an AR15.
It is the bees knees

I know it's a cheap rifle, but my various Kel Tec SU16s have always been really decent rifle for the money. I've currently got a C model with the folding stock and it's a great little gun.

I think I'll try and find a bren carbine to buy, if anyone reading this thread has one they would part with send me a pm.

If i can't find one of those I'll get one of the others.

See also: Hannibal holding one above in the pic.

BTW The Ruger Mini-14 is awesome, costs more than an AK now, and generally makes me appreciate how modular the AR is lol. My friend's dad just spent $800 on a plain jane one with wood furniture. Meh.

I’ve gotten into a couple used ones for $500 a piece. New they are a little overpriced.

I want one of these bad. So sweet.

There is no way it uses "ALL" ar15 parts. Just for starters the bolt face surely can't be the same...

I saw this yesterday and thought of you

Yea thats about how i feel.

I understand that bren 1s where not selling well and they probably make more money just fulfilling their orders for European militaries.

Ive spent the last two weeks checking gunbroker at least twice a day and i think i might just get a ps90 instead. They are actually cheaper.

I have both a Keltec .CA model and a mini 14. They work fine. I am especially fond of the Keltec. It is a very handy and light .223 without a pistol grip but takes AR mags.

Anyone here handle a Robinson xcr? How do they compare to the ACR?

Anyone here handle a Robinson xcr? How do they compare to the ACR?

Yes, have had an XCR since 2007 and it’s a tank and reliable. I shoot 2 and 3 gun matches with it more than my other ARs. It’s my go to rifle. I’ve got the 5.56, 5.45 and 6.8 kits...had the 7.62x39 but sold it years ago due to AR x39 crappy mags. I’d love to have a newer version with the M-LOK rails or the XCR-M in 308. I’ve handled and shot an ACR and for me it felt toyish in comparison.

Robinson is small, so there is that issue for some people and it’s not 100% AR parts compatible. Seems that they’ve solved the customer service issue from years ago though. XCR forum has a bit of traffic still, though like the other Canadian site we know so well, the owners sold out and participation dropped off a lot over there.

I started looking at the XCR before I even got my first AR. Promising platform but damn was it expensive.

@Prudii did you see the link to the Brown ACR I put in your WTB post? I thought it was a good deal.
