Looking to see if anyone has any recommendations for grass fed beef for sale, preferably around the Wake County / Lee County area.
Have found a couple of farms available, one around the Snow Camp area, which is a reasonable distance to drive.
Looking to purchase in the 1/2 or 1/4 steer
amounts.

Friend of mine buys a half cow once a year or something like that from someone in Staley. If you’re interested I can get you contact Info

That's basically what we are looking to do.
Let me know, trying to sort through different farms and decide who we want to go with.

Not interested in grass finished?

This is part of the issue and reason why before we commit to buying a quantity of meat that we either speak with or go by to see the farm.
People use the terms interchangeably when they are not
Grass Fed = Either ate grass once or all it's life.
Grass Finished = Ate grass all it's life, or ate grain and was finished on grass.

Need to talk to the actual individual farm and find out what they do, more interested in the practices than the labels.

Want beef that never ate grain and spent it's time in pasture.

Only go the Wake County route if you are wanting to brag about how much you paid.

It's mostly marketing hype for this area of the world.

99% of all the beef grown around here is pasture not feed lot.

I was surprised when the beef was delivered. We hadn't seen beef that dark, it has the deep color of venison from feeding on grass, not grain. It also has a different flavor.

My cousin sales produce, organic beef & chicken, eggs etc. T5-Farms He sales at the Elon,Chapel Hill and Burlington farmers market. Pre-order and he will bring it to the market for you to PU.
His stuff sells quick.

There's a place in garner called ninja cow (pretty funny story behind the name). I've looked into their meat, it's a little pricey but I have a friend that swears it's good. No personal experience though.

It does. I've known some farmers to raise them on grass and finish them on corn for a couple of days before processing to lessen the flavor change.

From my understanding, they are finished on grains to fatten them up, which may alter the flavor, but it's a quick way to boost their weight before selling.
