Bottom line:
More flavor than most American adjunct lagers. Thumbs up!

When I lived in NW Indiana in the 90's, this was $2.37 at the bargain bin A CASE!! Practically lived off of it for a decade.

Hamms is a great beer. I have drank enough Hamms to float a battle ship around. Edited to add Great review. Will be subscribing.

Very cool. I didn't think Hamms was even still in business. Sure did like it a whole bunch as a teenager, but don't think I've seen any since.

ETA- found online that the Food Lions in Graham & Mebane both carry it. Gonna hafta pick some up.

Ahhhh. Picked up a sixer today at Food Lion. Good stuff. Good, honest, working man's beer. Not too heavy, no skunky stank.

Seems like most of the big breweries have changed their formulas over the years (Bud & PBR come to mind), but damned if Hamms don't taste just like I remember it.

A good amount of Food Lions on the coast carry it, I sell it but never tried it. Gonna give it a go now. Nice review. Thanks!

Does ot still come in the barrel shaped cans?

Food Lion only had sixers of 16oz tallboys.

I gotta admit, I'm actually very surprised. These are going down smooth AF. I might shoulda picked up more. :D I'm covered, though. In a fit of nostalgia for the '70's & '80's, I picked up a sixer of Coors in the old barrel shaped bottles.

FWIW, I'm a 'beer snob/nerd'. I love rip yer face off IPAs, Imperial IPAs, Imperial Stouts & knock you stupid Barleywines, you name it. All that high-test, in yer face microbrew is my 'thing'. A childhood friend of an Austrian buddy owns the oldest, still extant brewery in Austria. Founded in 1229. I've gotten the friends & family tour of their 600 y/o cellars & drank beer from the bucket, fresh out of the tanks. Peter's such a hard-core beer nerd that he studied/became a beer sommelier & keeps an IMPRESSIVE private cellar. I mean, I'm really, really into beer & the Hamms really holds its own. Seriously, I'd put it alongside the original Czech Budvar. Big flavor, not heavy, just right. Perfect beer for throwin' hay or runnin' trot-lines for catfish.

That said, I hate what 'American beer' has become. Back in the day, when a bunch of German, Polish & Czech families were brewing beer instead of today's mega corporations, American beer had flavor. Schlitz, PBR, Coors, Bud, Hamms, etc. all had their own flavor & vibe going on & actually tasted like beer, versus most of the fermented rice water being cranked out now. Europe ruined me for 'American beer' until the microbrew thing took off here. So many countries there have very proud brewing traditions & 99% of the beer you'll encounter will be local & very fresh. Hungarians have a wicked, doppelbock-ish dark beer & Romania has had a huge German minority for centuries & brews some incredible beers.

Nice to see an old school American brewery still doin' it right.

There's a store close to the house that has Hamm's tall boys for 69 cents

@Crazy Carl have you tried these? Found it at my local Walmart market this morning. Definitely not for the faint of heart or casual beer drinker. 7.2% ABV of bitter, in your face ale. Finishes with caramel notes on the back end but packs a punch up front. It's not a drink all day beer, for me anyways, but I enjoyed it.....
Sorry for the thread derail.

Oh yeah. Good stuff, but definitely a later in the day sippin' beer, or to enjoy with a big ol' steak.

Hamms was very cheap in the stores years ago and I consumed a fair share of it.

I still enjoy beer but don't drink much anymore. The first taste of beer that I had was when I snuck and took a gulp of dad's can of Schlitz. I was very confused. Mom had always told me not to drink that stuff and that it wasn't good. But, this stuff was awesomely good. Did mom lie to me? How did she not know just how good this stuff was? I remember that first swallow of Schlitz like it was yesterday.

Kroger had their own brand of some items called Cost Cutter. All the packaging was white with black letters and later changed to bright yellow with black letters. They even had Cost Cutter beer that was real cheap. I think it was bottled/canned by Falstaff.

Now, I gotta find this stuff.

Funny thing is, I didn't know it existed. And I've been drinking beer fo eva.

Thanks @specops56 for the reminder of a really good lager! And they carry it down the Food Lion near me! Score!
