As far as the procedure, it’s apparently different now. No pulling the tube out of the testicles and feeling it in your neck:

During the Procedure
  • Your procedure is performed in an outpatient surgery center using local anesthesia.
  • Your urologist will make a small incision (less than 1 centimeter) in the scrotum or perform a "no scalpel" vasectomy in which a special instrument makes a puncture instead of a small cut.
  • Various techniques are then used to block the passage of sperm through the vas deferens.

I had this done 26 years ago. It was a very new procedure in the US at the time. Developed in China, I tell people I had a Chinese vasectomy.
Pain during either procedure is usually from the doctor rushing and not giving the Lidocaine time to work. To quote my Doc, "You'll be plenty numb just after most finish"

I've talked to several doctors after my experience and they all said the same thing. There are so many nerves there's and so much going on that there is almost no way to get everything 100% numb. When I told them I could feel things but it wasn't painful, just uncomfortable, they weren't surprised.


I also know of a doctor who will pull the needle out and get straight to work if his nurse doesn't remind him to give it a few minutes to let the drugs start working.

So I had the consult today.

They are making my wife sign a consent form the morning of, in their presence. I can’t take a form home and come back with it. It pretty well pissed me off, because A woman doesn’t need permission to get her tubes tied or to have an abortion. I don’t get it.

I don’t think my wife had to sign anything when I had it done. I know she wasn’t there because I drove home.
I agree with you though, it’s stupid that your wife has to consent for you but not the other way around.

had it done after 3 kids and 3 5mg valium. I guess I was supposed to stagger them out but I chomped those things like Pac Man and Didn't GAF afterward.
Well until the ice pack/frozen peas stuff. Been wearing boxer briefs and getting it spontaneously ever since lol
