Gunbelt goes to Bayside Maine

Because when it comes to black flies (about a thousand times worse than mosquitoes), Mainiacs wouldn't even let tourists use something that doesn't work. DEET works. Period. It gives some people headaches, true. It'll take the finish off your rifle stock, my 788 woodchuck rifle to proves that.

Moose have been known to drown from going underwater to escape the insidious black flies. The first explorers declared the entire region unfit for human habitation because of them. You have Copperheads, Diamondbacks, Water Moccasins, Alligators and an entire half year you call the Screen Door to Hell season, but you are blessed to not know black flies.

Black flies are the reason boating is so popular in Maine. Fishing from shore requires a blood transfusion around lunch.
No kidding, as a 8 year old kid, I was given old white owl cigars to keep puffing on while we fished the Brooks.
It kept the black flies out of your ears, nose and eyes.

I've been coming here since '76. The house has been in the family since the early 40's.
If blackfly season was as long as Skeeter season, Maine would be uninhabitable.

What ? No swimming photos ? When I was young I went to Maine once on a family vaca and remember that just walking in 2" of water at the edge of the beach caused my legs to immediately cramp up. No Thankee

Beautiful place for a few months of the year.

Would love to go myself!! Rocks on the beach always look out of place to me.

We're discussing turning the garage into a cabin, & that will be rented a few weeks a year. The main house is 2 1/2 story & sleeps 10 - 12 comfortably & isn't set up to rent. There are several houses here that do rent & I can connect with someone for that. John Travolta has a home on the island across the bay. You have to book early as it fills quickly here.

I guess his house would do. Can you check the price and get back to me?

Mom has a Summer home on Lake Quantabacook in Searsmont. It has been in the family for over 100 years. She and my sister have made many updates to the place since I was there but I preferred it without all the modern amenities. The taxes there are through the roof! Maine is beautiful....a few months out of the year.

I may have to get in the water today, it's supposed to get up to 77 for a high until a thunderstorm moves in.
