The Gun Store in Lexington had a new Taurus in the showcase...probably 3-4 years ago. Nice lookin' pistole' but there was a hitch on the gitalong. They'd just discovered it as I walked in.

The magazine was a serious pill to remove. I'm talkin' grit your teeth and set your heels hard. It was all Jim could do to get it out. As anyone who knows Freddy can guess...he was incensed...to put it lightly.

Clues:

It wasn't the mag catch and the magazine itself was to spec in width and length.

Spotted the problem in about 10 seconds after we got the magazine out. Had to partially detail strip it. The fix took about three minutes.

Freddy was happy again.

Readysetgo!

Woudn't have to detail strip it partially if'n it were the grip screws...
nor would you partially detail strip it if there were a problem with the magazine catch.

...bottom end of the sear spring not seated properly, that would require partial detail stripping.
...or grip safety not installed correctly, but I can't think how that could be done!

perhaps the sear spring did not engage the disconnect and the sear, in other words the top end of the sear wasn't installed correctly.

You're down around Antarctica now, with only a tealight candle for warmth.

This is an odd one. I've only seen it the one time and haven't even heard of it since.

One simple part was out of spec, and it was fixable...and Fred actually fixed it. I just told him how.

Ok, that's different from what I was thinking... assumed you fixed it. Silly me!

Was the bend at the bottom of the sear spring too long, so that the short end was sticking out into the magwell?

Trigger bow bent outta wack?

Or too far forward sonehow?

Grip Safety could have been outa spec, pushing the sear spring into the magwell.

The clue I'm having trouble with is that you saw it, before detail stripping the grip.

I knew you could do it!

I didn't actually see the problem. I felt it. When I got it out, I asked Fred if he had a smooth mill file in the back and told him to take a 64th off the end of the tab.

It's the little things that getcha.
