Fly fishing buddies, let's see if we can help a brother out. I found the top of a nice fly rod, maybe a Winston, on a trail in the Smokies on Monday. Unfortunately in us getting an unexpected assist getting out today the tip got broken. But I figure you can get warranty work for a broken tip but not for a missing section. If they can tell me about where they think they lost it I'll send it to them.

Could be a Temple Fork end I lost back in ~2005!

TFO actually “warranties” it and replaced the tip at no charge.

It was in really good shape, clean, and kind of hung in the weeds. I don't think it's been there that long. Glad they fixed you up. I've heard nothing but good things about TFO. But after messing with this Tenkara stuff I'll probably never use a normal fly rod in the backcountry again. The one I took is just over 15" collapsed and 9' extended. It weighs less than 3 oz with the sock and line, I left the case at home.

chiefjason, which Tenkara rod do you have?

I have 2.

Dragon Tail Shadowfire 365 12" 6:4 action. Great for the lake and big streams. A bit much for some of the small streams I fish. But it's a nice soft rod.

Shibasu-2709 9' 7:3 action. Worked great in the Smokies but it is a bit of a stiffer action. Played the 8-9" rainbows well though. It packs down to about 15" and less than 3 oz without the tube.
