I have a model 24...410/22lr the 410 shoots everytime but the 22 will only shoot when it is closed with some force, almost have to slam it, if just closed with easy touch it will not fire you can tell where the firing pin is missing d hitting low. I have changed the firing pin but did not help. any ideas? my gradson will be growing into this soon

Firing pin lever is on the hammer. Try closing it gently, then moving the lever to the shotgun position and back. Then fire the .22 round. See what happens.

Is it me, or does that breech face look worn slap out?

I guess several things could cause this misalignment. Seems like you tried the hammer selector, but have you tried the actual hammer? Where does the pin strike on a 410 primer, as in is it low too?

Is the barrel assembly loose on the break pivot?

Love my 24 models. Hope we can get this one working for your grandyoungn

Close the action slowly the way you said it won't fire and take a pic of the side 90 deg from the last one you showed. Looking to see how much gap is in it when closed.

On second thought take one that way and then close it hard and take another one.

I had the 20 ga/.22 version , the locking lug on the barrel was worn so much that it would open itself when the 20 ga was fired. Have you had any issues like that?

I see what @premise is seeing, looks like an angry beaver gnawed on the breach face with a wood rasp.

Hard to say for sure but it looks as if the barrels are down just a little lower on hard close than easy close. If that is the case you might be able to measure the difference with a feeler gauge. If it is measurably different then the firing pin would be lower and the shells would also be just a tad further away from the firing pins.

Make sure nothing is under the barrels to prevent closing properly without "hard closing" them. A small piece of trash could stop it closing without the hard close. I know that sounds too obvious to be the problem but you would be amazed at the number of times I have gone to jobs where an eng would not start and there was no fuel in the tank. Always check the obvious first.

Right, you can see the difference in the gap at the top of the curve where it hinges. Easy close has more gap. Hard close still has gap, just not as much.
