What is the best flooring option for dogs? Laminate, tile or something else? We have engineered wood floors that are total crap and are looking for something that won't scratch and dent easily.

One thing to look for is country of origin, lot of the vinyl is from China, the Pergo genuine laminate is made here.

Laminate or the vinyl plank
Ive put down a lot of Pergo, and it's held up to a big dog (at my friend's house)
Ive put it in my grandmother's house and others too - easy to install, durable!

We’ve got pergo in our living room and one bedroom. It has held up to three dogs ranging from 40-150lbs. No scratches or anything from them. Have had some scratches from sliding furniture though but it was my fault.

Do NOT buy anything from lumber liquidators! I hate that place with a passion
we floored our whole house with LL products. served us just fine. hate it that your experience was bad.

I floored my daughter's home with some very nice bamboo from LL and it is gorgeous (bamboo is extremely tough to work with).

My wife put down a commercial vinyl that looks a lot like wood in her pottery shop, In residential applications it’s guaranteed pretty much forever. She says it was commercial solid vinyl plank by Mannington.

I floored my mother in law's place with snap and lock vinyl. I also put down vinyl in a couple more projects, and it worked well. Indestructible

My next job will be with the laminated vinyl plank. Whatever you do though do not try to go cheap. My laminate floors have separations in them where they have contracted and expanded and made the locking tabs slip apart.

I really like engineered vinyl stuff. easy install, cut it with a knife, looks fabulous

LL took big hit from bad China flooring, just like the China drywall that many contractors used in Florida after the hurricane.

We have been installing a lot of LVP. It is available as a snap together like a laminate but is a vinyl. Depending on manufacturer it is waterproof and highly scratch resistant.
I agree that is the best laminate I put it in my foyer kitchen and bathrooms. I will slowly replace all the other laminate in my house with it

They make a tile that looks like wood. Tile will last forever. Solid wood floors are good also. They may take some abuse, but can be rejuvenated. Both will last longer than you will.

I put down vinyl planks in the den and dining room. Stainmaster product I think. Looks pretty good, dog hasn't torn it up, but it has only been a couple months.

Put it in a bathroom 3-4 years ago, looks brand-new, went to a floating vanity this spring and installed some new with the old, can't tell.

Not sure what kind of dogs you have, but I had a boxer that had to have ACL surgery because the floor was so slick she hurt herself. So active dogs need flooring with some grip, or get them some tennis shoes, I guess.

I asked a flooring guy this same question once. When told what dogs I had at that time he said..Hell, I can come install some sheet steel!

I asked my dogs and they unanimously voted for moss floors with a few dead toads strone about for wallering purposes.

Really though, real hardwood flooring like maple. Hell, the more character it gets, the better it looks.
